Dallas Food Guide: Sushi Robata – A Must-Try Japanese Sushi Spot

As mentioned by other users, Sushi Robata has a pleasant, cozy, somewhat dimly lit atmosphere. Service: 4/5 I came in for lunch on a Friday a little after 1pm. With lunch ending at 2pm, the staff service was still good and so kind. Food: 3/5 As featured below, I didn’t order any real sushi items except for the California roll that came with the bento box. With that taken into account, the food I ordered was good, but nothing spectacular. The udon noodles had a great texture and the broth matched it well. The bento box had grilled mackerel and pork cutlets. The pork cutlets were a bit overcooked as they were tough and dry. The dipping sauce helped to mask it a little. The grilled mackerel had a great crispy seared skin, and they removed all bones, too! However it was slightly overcooked so some of the bigger parts of the flesh were a little dry and somewhat tough. California roll was surprisingly good, being served at room temperature elevates it from normal fridge/grocery store rolls. Price: 4/5 Good value for lunch, especially those who don’t eat heavily for lunch. Bento was like $9 and the noodles were about $8. I wish they would have charged a little less for the udon, but considering the great texture, maybe they made it in house.

You cannot see how fancy inside from outside. There are so many small appetizers such as Takoyaki, gyutataki, agedashidofu, etc. some of meals you cannot find in TX, very rare and traditional taste meals you can have bite at Sushi Robata. Also price is very good price. Each appetizer is around 3-5 dollars, and taste is amazing. They have special menu almost everyday changing, and chef made it. A lot of choices. Even sake, shochyu has so many different varieties!! Sushi is always fresh, little small piece you expect, chef is knowledgeable japanese. from special menu, some fish is from Japan, taste just amazing !! You can enjoy “Omakase” “Kaiseki” here. Since I came here, I am big fun of sushirobata. I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE !! You can have 25-30 people big party here, so good for party. 2 rooms are half private room. highly recommend!

Just experienced the worst customer service ever in my life. If only theres an option for negative 1000 star. Here’s what happened, me and my wife and our new born daughter r dining here 6/4 evening. As we stuck in traffic our friends arrived earlier, we thought it would be appropriate for them to sit in first. We don’t have a reservation but it’s like only 20%full inside plenty of seats available. However, the waiter refuses to let our friends sit inside, not even in the waiting area, they said they can’t let us in until all party arrived altogether, so they made my friends, their senior parent and two new born twin daughters waiting in the parking lot in the sun. Yet later when we dining, we saw pretty much every table has ppl arrive on different time. Then when we finally arrived together and granted permission to sit down, my friends brought his own beer and we haven't seen each other for a long time and we r all so happy so we have a sip of the beer he brought from outside. There's no sign of "no food or drinks from outside", so we assume it's ok. As soon as we had the first sip, literally saying cheers, this lady came yelled us like we just committed the worst crime. He take away all our beer immediately and threaten to kick us out. We were all like, ok we understand u guys have ur policy, but u don't have sign and u could just ask nicely like decent human being. We have three crying baby at the table so we don't wanna create a scene. Both my friend and I apologized and try to deescalate the situation. As the lady who yelled at us in English, she turn around spoke to one of her coworkers in Japanese, saying some racial slur in Japanese means stupid Chinese. My wife who is Taiwanese, speaks fluent Japanese heard it and tell me. Again, we r enjoying our friends company and dealing with 3 crying baby so we just let it go. Fast forward to the end of the night, we end up spending $330 for the dinner, when the check came, we saw on the receipt theres a $77 gratitude already automatically charged on our credit card without asking us. When the same lady came back with the receipt, not only she did not explain the charge, but she has the audacity to ask why we didn't give additional tips. Again, we did not argue and just left. As we walked out, everyone at our party is modified and agitated by how we r treated though the entire night. Now we r talking to our friends who's lawyer and exploring the possibility of seeking legal solutions. Aside from the inexcusable poor service, the food is actually pretty good. We just feel bad for the chef. We would totally become regular and go back there and bring more friends. Now we r letting everyone know how we r treated here and spread the words in the...

My friend and I went for an "early" dinner on Saturday getting there a little after they opened for dinner at 5:30. Because of this we didn't think to make reservations. Fortunately we were just ahead of the crowd and were able to be seated before the restaurant filled up. It's not a very large place - long as opposed to wide with tables for larger groups down the middle and smaller two-tops to the sides, as well as bar seating and several two-tops flush up with a four-top table but separate by a table divider. All-in-all a good use of space and comfortable.

We started out with the Nasu Dengaku (miso glazed grilled eggplant) and the Ebi Tempura which is a combo of shrimp & veggie tempura. The tempura was crunchy and delicious, but the eggplant was amazing. It was half of an eggplant that was creamy on the inside with a wonderful charred glaze that was addictive.

We followed that with the Magnma Roll and a variety of sashimi. The roll was made well and buried under a mound of toppings that made it both challenging and delicious. (Pro tip from our waitress who let us know that she always uses a spoon to dish up these rolls so that you don't lose anything when transferring it to your plate.)

The sashimi -- we ordered salmon, yellowtail, mackerel, sea scallop and squid - was so fresh and delicate. Even the mackerel, which can be a very fishy fish, was light. The fish almost melts in your mouth it's so fresh.

I also ordered the Uni sushi - it's not always available so I tend to order it whenever I can. Sea Urchin is not for everyone but I like the strong ocean and minerally flavors and I was not disappointed.

All of this was paired with a large House Sake which we enjoyed very much. For some reason that hot/warm sake seems to be the perfect follow up after taking a bite, especially with the fattier fishes.

I would highly recommend Sushi Robata - and we'll be going back to try more of the menu items because you can't fit all of the deliciousness into one meal. The service was enjoyable and we never got the feeling that we were being rushed even when the restaurant was really starting to fill up. However, we'll definitely make reservations next time just to be on the safe side - especially if...

I had been hungering for Zaru Soba - cold buckwheat noodles served with a dipping sauce - and finally found Sushi Robata as a venue with soba on the menu. I went by myself and was seated at the sushi bar. The nearest sushi chef immediately struck up a conversation which lasted the entire meal and was most enjoyable.

The soba was exactly what I was expecting food-wise, except a bigger serving than what I'd typically had in the past. The price was very reasonable. This is now added to my local favorites.

Although I originally figured on just the soba, the sushi display looked too tempting and I ordered a serving of tuna sashimi. I prefer sashimi to sushi and consider tuna sort of the reference dish when testing a new source.

The tuna was absolutely melt-in-the-mouth delicious. And this was not the higher priced "fatty" tuna but the regular selection. Pricing was again reasonable although if you're looking for bargain sushi/sashimi, the quality here is too high for that.

I brought my grandkids on a second visit, specifically to give them a test taste of shashimi. That didn't work out, although finished their pieces before declaring it wasn't a hit.

My granddaughter did relish the soba zaru and actually finished her serving - I thought it would be too much. My grandson enjoyed slurping the soba but quickly decided he wasn't a fan.

A small salmon patty from the appetizer menu did prove to be a big hit and he had a second (on a subsequent trip he had 3). He also had a Japanese soda flavored like bubble gum and with a unique bottle with a small marble closure. That type of soda has become part of their Japanese cuisine order.

We continue to enjoy Sushi Robata and my daughter and son-in-law are trying to find an opportunity to get...
