This was my first time venturing out to this place and I have to admit that I was a little leery to try something new...but to my surprise this was pretty large restaurant which meant that we could safely sit and enjoy the ambiance and food without worry of someone being within sneezing or coughing distance. Also there were only a few people that were patronizing on the thursday night we went. I'm hoping customers were ordering food for pick up, as I saw an Uber Eats driver come in while we were there. Now onto the food... normally, I consider myself a vegan which is why I ordered the vegetarian platter, which is an assortment of their vegan entrees but honestly since Thanksgiving I've been a bit of a Chegan (cheating vegan)...so when my boyfriend orders the lamb, I excited had to try. It was delish!!! So tender and flavorful. The vegan platter was and assortment of dishes full of exotic flavors also which was so delish!! ...plus the portions are pretty generous, so much that my boyfriend who usually cleans his plate so much so that you can put the plate back in the cabinet after he eats, had a little bit of left overs. We were so happy to get lucky with this restaurant....oh and just a side note, the owner was so nice in explaining all the menu items and because he was also juggling a lot of responsibility as most small business owners do, we are pretty sure he was also the cook, the cashier and possibly the bartender as there was one person sitting silently at the bar...but despite how busy he was with wearing many different hats he was kind enough to engage us in conversation about his business and about his culture. So refreshing from the average restaurant. We will definitely go back and support to do our part in helping his restaurant stays a float during these uncertain times....and also for the yummy lamb...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem. Very easy to miss it but it is worth the try. I am a lover food, so I will try almost everything at least once.. I have had Ethiopian food before once which I didn't like, I had Doro Wot. So, when my business partner suggested Ethiopian food for our meeting, I was excited to try again. Maybe the first time was not a good day.
So we went here and first, I must say that the reception was warm and sweet. The lady took us to our seats and she was pleasant while she took our orders. She answered all our questions and brought us our wines fast (Honey Wine) which was delicious. We placed our orders and waited for approximately 30minutes which seemed like a long wait, except when the food came, it was easy to see why.
We had ended up ordering the beef ribs because someone next to us had that and the hot sizzling sound of frying made me want it haha. Sometimes, I do that. Get inspired by someone's order. I don't eat much meat generally so that meat was a lot but to-go pack to the rescue.. yayyy.
Well, overall, I will say, I tried it a second time and wasn't bought over. It will take me maybe falling in love with an Ethiopian to try the food the third time lol (I joke) but yeah, you get the point.
Overall ambience of the restaurant was warm and welcoming. There was a diverse crowd too and that was excited to see. When we were there, there were Ethiopians (of course lol) other Africans, African Americans, Caucasians, Asians and more. It was sweet to see how adventurous and welcoming others are to food.
Go here for the food, the warmth and culture. Oh! I loved the culture of the place, so much vibrant art work. Great place I'd recommend for lovers of...
Read moreYenat Guada means "Mom's Kitchen". In Ethopian. If you're new to Ethiopian cuisine, I want you to be assured that the menu will be of substantial benefit to you. The inside cover of the menu has a glossary of terms which you'll find nestled within the list of dishes and their descriptions. Comes in very handy!Lamb and beef are heavily represented here, but there are a number of vegetarian dishes which also qualify for vegan status as well. The spices are unique, very flavorful and, if you like, spicy. They'll make it just the way you like it. The service is warm and expert, the bathrooms are immaculate, and the decor in the dining room is elegant but surprisingly informal. There appears to be a full bar. I may as well tell you that you're already walking around with the utensils you'll be using...since you were born. Your fingers. Understandably, because won't find any on the table waiting for you, you may want to B.Y.O.U.. But trust me when I tell you that the Injera bread, (a highly porous sourdough crêpe, if you will) served with every dish, makes a great food scooper-upper and promises to accompany every bite soooo deliciously. Food prices are moderate. I love lamb, and so I'm compelled to recommend it. There are several choice lamb preparations. I'll be returning. Maybe I'll...
