I knew this was where the tea room in Chattanooga got their idea... So I expected it to be better... but it was not. Worse the the waiter informed me Polly Claire went out of business. 😭
If I had not been comparing it to the spin off...
I like crumpets with creme and curd more than banana muffins with strawberry jelly. I really like hot tea... so cold raspberry tea being their house favorite is sorta disappointing. Maybe this is a summer thing?
All the cold salads were really good... and I'm not a huge "southern cold salad concoctions" fan. All the entrees- also good. Reuben yum, Shepard's Pie yum, Chix Ceaser pita- okay. I think it caters more to luncheons with ladies concerned in calorie intake?? Cause some of the favorites were pretty tame...
We got pasta salad as a side since we had all the cold salads as a starter. It was less sensational than "Suddenly Salad".😔 ... but we only chose it b/c everything else listed for sides came on the sampler. In retrospect double serving of any pimiento cheese, chicken salad, grape salad, or marinated carrots would have been FINE! Cause I wanted more of them!!
But... I will definitely go back! I will go with hot tea next time. I HAVE TO TRY the strawberry pretzel salad cause it was not being served that afternoon. Sold out most likely... cause it is a favorite. ALSO- soups are off menu till fall... so DEFINITELY returning to sample more!!
The chicken salad with pineapple etc- really impressed me♡. Marinated carrots also differant but pleasing! The grape salad with sugary topping... was heavenly!!
Also... we came shortly before closing... and we were happily seated. I even gave the "if it is too late we understand" introduction. Politeness was so thick I thought maybe they did not really close at 2pm... but they do! So... WOW and THANK YOU.
My family were visiting and Chelsea's was a very nice end of...
Read moreThis was by far the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. We were seated quickly (which is the only positive part of this review), as there were only 3 other tables present. My party of 5 ordered the Shepard's Pie, a grilled ham and Swiss sandwich plate, a grilled ham and Swiss half sandwich and soup, a Reuben sandwich with soup, and a soup and salad plate.
First of all, this should not have taken 45 minutes to arrive even if they were busy and they certainly were not. The sandwiches were made with plain white bread; the same bread you'd find at the grocery store; I expect the ham and Swiss cheese to be of similar caliber, as it was certainly nothing to write home about. They were so small. I could have made 30 sandwiches of the same caliber for the price of this sandwich (which was $10.50) by going to Kroger's instead.
I left Chelsea's and had to stop at the break room at work to grab a vending machine sandwich, which frankly, was more filling. Not to mention that everybody received the wrong plate when we were served, so we played a game of musical lunches until everybody got what they ordered
To top it all off, the total check was over $80, because yes, the proprietor had the gall to charge gratuity to a party of 5.
The overall experience left me feeling broke and hungry, and took over an hour for a 5 minute eating experience that left much to be desired in the palette, the stomach,...
Read moreThe food was very good. However, the service was not up to par. The waitress was rude, short, and not very helpful. Anything we asked for (which was not very many things) she acted as if it was a nuisance . When we first arrived (party of 8) we were given a very small menu, the top of the menu had in very fine print "all items are made to order, everything on this menu is easier for large parties"- several individuals in our group requested a full menu- the waitress openly advised our small party what the fine print says at the top of the menu and then hesitantly went and got 2 full menus for our group. throughout the meal she hardly spoke, when she did speak it was very short, never smiled. At the end of our meal, we ordered several pieces of cake to share and requested some plates for us to use. The waitress said that when we arrived there were bread plates on the table that we could use those. We also tried to move the cake pieces around so that we could all share them, she kept trying to move them back to the original spot that she sat them and visibly got aggravated that we moved them down the table. The experience would have been wonderful with better service. We picked this place to eat with a work group that is located in Dalton. That is 8 different families, and two different companies that will most likely not visit again and spread their experience. I suggest trying a...
