“Jon’s Fish Market in Dana Point Harbor! BEST Fish and Shrimp and Chips” that was the suggestion from @denavega and also “Jon’s fried shrimp is the best I’ve had in OC!” another suggestion from @gjs71 . Thanks for suggestions you guys, I really liked it. The shrimp and Cod are both heavily battered, but the decent sized pieces of fish. The fries had NO salt at all. The coleslaw was basic. Not the best I’ve had, but still tasty - and such a great place to eat a meal like this - right in a Marina next to the ocean! . 🐠The 4 piece plate (Cod) $21.40 🍤Fried Shrimp w/chips & coleslaw $24.55 . 📍JON’S FISH MARKET 34661 Golden Lantern Dana Point, CA 92629

Googled a place I could take my dogs to and looked at the menu, hours, pricing, etc. Menu looked good, hours on their Google page said they were open until 8 so we decided to go there for dinner. Arrived about 6:45 and was immediately told “we close in 15 minutes and all we are able to serve is fried food or take out” our response was “so like fish and chips” - the response was yes. Decided that might work sat down and ordered, n o menu was offered. Food was ok, service was ok but we were shocked at the price when the bill came - $21.40 for those fish &chips. Since there was no menu offered so we could see what we would be charged we were a bit annoyed. We showed our server their website showing it was $15.40 for that same meal. That was a big difference. The response from our server was that prices had gone up and they have not updated their website in several years. Obviously not his fault but not a great business practice. They also need to update their Google business page with correct hours so people know when they can expect to get a meal there. The cole slaw tasted like rotten cabbage, the breading on the fish was thick and tasteless and my friend was served about 10 fries and I was served a huge piles of fries. No consistency in portion sizes. We noticed several people after we sat down that were turned away. You should take the time to keep your online presence up to date and when asked you should have honored the advertised price on the website. I won’t be going back… so disappointing for something that looked so good to be so awful.

Busy busy place by the harbor which serves fresh fish and if you are in a rush maybe it’s not the ideal place to eat. We were coming from the Catalina island and on our way back home we wanted to eat something local. We saw some tables available and a small line and guessed we were lucky to get sat quick. Apparently they were short in staff and the place became so chaotic. It looks like you need to give them your name and how many people and then they call you . It’s an old style technique, they use pen and paper for that. They guy at the entrance was so nice to let us sit at a random table which was not clean from the previous patrons. We were ok as we just wanted to eat and leave. To be honest it took a while to have that guys talk to us as one person was checking guests in, bring food and some other work, so again , if you are in a rush … don’t consider this especially during rush hour. We did not get fork with our order , we had to ask for. The French fries were a little cold although the fish was good, except no salt on it. We ordered halibut and chips and scallops and chips. The scallops were good but not great. However, the food kept us full for 8-9 h until we made it home. In conclusion, take this place into consideration when you have plenty of time and eat there if they seem slower.

Cleanliness. I called 4 times on my way to the restaurant trying to make an order to go and nobody answered I just kept getting sent to a voicemail. I showed up at 7:30 and they were able to take my to go order. I told them I tried to call several times and they informed me that their phone was broken. my waiter was very nice and while I was sitting and waiting for my food, I noticed something crawling on the menu that was sitting on the table in front of me. When I looked in to see what it was, I noticed it was a baby roach. I told staff there was a roach on my menu. One staff member said what was that and he said there is a roach on my menu and he said oh where? I said right there he killed the bug and said oh so sorry about that. I immediately got up and canceled my ticket. The waiter said oh I’m sorry about that. We sometimes have those water bugs that come in. I am from Florida and I am very well aware of what a baby cockroach looks like which I informed the staff and I said if there is a baby cockroach, there are more. Also, the fact that a bug is willing to crawl out in front of somebody who is actively sitting at a table with the lights on is concerning. The waiter refunded my money, no problem and on my way out I called the restaurant again, but the intention of leaving a voicemail since they had informed me, the phone was broken. The phone was answered promptly on the second ring by somebody Which caught me off guard and I hung up. I called immediately back and apologize for hanging up, so I’m not sure what to believe if their phones are broken or not or staff just didn’t wanna answer. I can see why everybody sits outside. A restaurant that is on the water like they are needs to make sure that their kitchen is very clean and have regular pest control. Otherwise they will have...

My husband and I traveled from Chicago to visit his family in Laguna Beach, something he has done before, but it was a first for me. His family has lived in the area for over 60 years, and every time they have visitors, they like to show around their favorite spots. This restaurant has always been one of them and I’ve been hearing of it for a while since they have been customers for the past 20 years. Unfortunately, my recent experience was far from good. We were seated and waited patiently, but after more than 15 minutes, no one came to take our order or even bring us water. We were with an elderly family member who needed water to take his medication, so one of us kindly went to request a cup. Instead of understanding the situation, the manager began yelling at us, saying it wasn’t a self-serve restaurant. We understood that and were not rude, we were simply trying to care for a medical need after waiting quite some time. We asked to speak with the owner, hoping for some understanding, but sadly, the conversation didn’t lead anywhere. After two decades of loyalty and wonderful memories here from our family members, we’ve decided we won’t be returning. It’s truly disappointing to see how much the service and atmosphere have changed. We should have read other reviews before going because apparently, our situation is not an uncommon occurrence, and customer service has been declining for a while. Additionally, the person in charge of replying to others in similar situations and to us has been extremely condescending and not aware of what really happens at the restaurant. They always have an excuse to try and cover why patrons are being ignored and/or not given proper customer service but never address the real issue, which should be proper...
