After reading so many great reviews I wanted this place to deliver so much more than what I got. My first impression upon walking in was a charming, unique, Mexican restaurant. My server was very friendly and attendant to me. I ordered a carne mechada apepas and found it to be very greasy and inedible. The server picked up on that and asked the manager to remove it from the check (I did not ask for this, but i appreciate the attention). I also ordered Pollo tacos and fish tacos. Unfortunately I found the pork to be very dry and fish to be over fried. I did not finish my meal. To the establishments defense I was offered replacements and humbly declined and offered to pay for everything I tasted. Based on the level of business I personally witnessed in the restaurant and the reviews I've read, and the offer to replace food I would assume my experience is not normal. After a 12 hour day I was looking for perfect tacos and was disappointed. I would likely give it another go. The presentation looked good, but unfortunately the quality of my meal did not deliver and I was unable to finish it.

Sat at the bar for a beverage and a couple snacks and was overall quite happy with our experience. The bartender was friendly and helpful in selecting beverages and food. There are probably 10 seats at the bar in an L shape with high chairs and plenty of space. The atmosphere is quite lively and bright (perhaps a little too bright) and there really isn’t anything to help cut down on the noise as the floors are concrete and there aren’t many cushions. The arepas were tasty - nice chew to the corn cake and stuffed with plenty of filling. The highlight was definitely the tostones. Super salty, nice crunch but still very tender. The dipping sauce was the highlight of the meal - simply olive oil with some spices and a huge punch of fresh garlic. If you plan on smooching after dinner definitely make sure you’re both having the dipping sauce… Definitely plan on coming back here sometime. There was a small patio which looked like it could be fun in the Spring.

Mariposa falls under the veil of minas and amigos (two other local establishments) if I'm not mistaken. And from the impression I got it seems to be the least focused on out of the group. Attempting to be one of the trendy/chic taco bars popping up across the state MT hits and misses a bunch. The atmosphere is hip and inviting and the menu had a decent variety of options. Where they miss the mark is in execution. The prices don't reflect the portions and overall flavors while pretty good tend to be overly spiced or missing the mark just enough to leave you a little disappointed. Everything is very salty and certain items feel pre made and the ground beef felt like it had been sitting around. The guacamole is a bummer although the taste is decent. The food wasn't bad and the taste wasn't horrible but will I return for another go.... I'm not sure.

I was in Danbury car shopping which had taken all day. As anyone knows, car shopping is exhausting and we needed somewhere close by to eat. Mariposa was a true gem at the end of a long day! We ordered the tacos from a small menu and were not disappointed. I stopped eating meat during COVID so ordered the shrimp and a veggie taco recommended by the bartender. It was delicious! Both were, actually, but the veggie had crunchy sweet potato inside with a bean crema and the two were incredible together! The shrimp was also great and I liked that they were served on one corn tortilla instead of two. I feel two can often overwhelm the taste of the filling. My friend ordered shrimp and a beef and liked the beef as much. The guacamole and chips were great but would have been better had they been warm. They were served in a small folded paper bag which I found cute and easy to access. It kept the portion size down too which helped with overeating, always a pitfall of Mexican chips/dip. Mariposa also had a great Brazilian beer I had never heard of or tried which was amazing. Dark and smooth. If I find myself in Danbury again, I will definitely go back to Mariposa. Highly recommend! The bartender said there was more to come for the location in 2021 so locals...
