What a gem of a bar/restaurant! I am from WA state and was in town for my buddy's wedding. Went to get drinks/food here after the rehearsal dinner (only immediate family were at the dinner so this was for everyone else).
Boy, did I not expect what a great meal and service that I got!! I ordered calamari which was easily one of the top 5 calamaris I've ever had. I then ordered their 18oz Prime Ribeye and that was one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. It came out sizzling like a steak should, on a plate by itself, like a steak should 🤣. Was perfectly cooked mid-rare and had amazing flavor. The fat was rendered perfectly and it melted in my mouth. 10/10 steak for sure! I also got the crusted/seared ahi with the noodles and it was delicious. I get this kind of dish almost everywhere I see it and this was another top 5 all time ahi. Presentation was beautiful and way beyond my expectations. Another 10/10!
I am a classically trained chef (Le Cordon Bleu) with 15 years experience in commercial kitchens and catering and although I'm no longer cooking professionally, I know top tier food when I see/taste it. Even the French fries that I ordered were amazing. I was not drinking (#75 hard) but everyone said they were tasty and strong. Generous wine pours as well with excellent pricing all around. If I didn't live in WA I would be here every week.
The atmosphere is pretty damn cool as well. A wrap around bar, wine "room" behind the bar booths. The booths themselves look like reclaimed wood and the bar had cool glass cases with their liquor in it above/around the bar.
All in all, this deserves a 9.9/10. Only because I can't give anything a perfect 10 except 21 Royal in Disneyland, or a few other multi course tasting menus that I have had friends serve, custom to my likes, who are chefs (a couple pretty famous). But that is saying a lot and you all should be very proud of what you offer and that you are doing an amazing job all around.
I will definitely be back, no matter how long it takes me. Hopefully within...
Read moreAfter going to other restaurants during the week in the county celebrating Restaurant Week I went online to find Max 40 participating through October 9-15. First off I do not care about the cost of meals. However the menu was prefixed and there we four of us we thought the menu was interesting and wanted what they were offering. I ask the waiter for the pre fixed menu and he said it ended on Thursday. (Today it is still on there that they are participating) Had I not been with other people I would have left just based on irritation. I did not want a 50 dollar steak and everything else that comes with it. There are much better places for that. We ordered some other things on the menu. Chicken and some pasta. The waiter is great for offering more cocktails and asking to add starters but when the food arrives he is not around to ask if we need anything. The food was just average and above average pricing. Honestly it was just plain boring everyone had to use salt. The menu offerings other than steak are what you would find at The Hearth which you go there and expect that at reasonable pricing. Not one of us thought it was overwhelmingly delicious in fact underwhelming all around and that for a lot less there are great places in the area. Marketplace, Black Angus etc. I am sure they do not care as the place was busy. Had they not been on the list for offering the pre fixed menu which seemed to be interesting we would have not gone there. Honestly the whole time I was there I was thinking how good the Kobe beef burger across the street at Marketplace is! Our fault for staying but 7.30 on Saturday it is not easy to go somewhere else. I usually never write negative reviews but I also do not like being tricked. How can you screw up mashed potatoes and chicken picatta...really there was no flavor!! The food comes out so fast I think it is pre cooked waiting there...
Read moreHaving had Mix Prime on my culinary bucket list for an extended period, I recently seized the opportunity to dine there when a trip took me an hour from home to Waterbury. Our reason for the journey? Picking up wedding photos from our photographer, who conveniently resides in the area. We arrived at 7:30 PM on a Thursday evening to find a pleasantly intimate and luxurious setting, perfect for a romantic date night. The reservation process was seamless, thanks to the amiable host who promptly escorted us to a booth adjacent to a floor-to-ceiling glass window. While the drink menu exclusively featured cocktails, the staff were accommodating enough to craft a delightful mango-flavored mocktail for my alcohol-free evening.
Forgoing traditional entrees, we opted for a diverse array of appetizers to fully explore the restaurant's offerings: Chilled Raw Oysters: Fresh but petite, the oysters were delightful, albeit smaller than expected. Tuna Tartar: Elevated by an exquisite sauce, this dish was a flavor revelation. Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail U8: Generously sized, these colossal shrimp were so ample that sharing became a necessity. Red Wings (Teriyaki): Flavorful and juicy, yet slightly on the salty and tough side. I suspect a blue cheese or ranch dip might have balanced out the saltiness. Maine Crab Cake: The inclusion of mango salsa provided a refreshing counterpoint, making this dish particularly enjoyable, especially for my wife.
Our waiter was not only friendly but also attentive, ensuring a high-quality dining experience. I rate Mix Prime at 4.9 out of 5, with a minor deduction for the overly salty wings. It's a place I'd readily return to should I find myself in...
