My rating is really 2.5 stars. I don’t want to give 3 stars bc that would be too high when you take it all into consideration. When I first started ordering from here 3 years ago I would have given 4 stars, but since the quality has decreased. Freshness of the food is the best aspect, however packaging and prep of food is thoughtless. I ordered a grilled cheese with a side of roasted potatoes and it came out to $9.50. Expensive for what I received. We’re in Danbury, not Greenwich. The cheese was melted on two huge brioche slices. Once you place a large absorbable piece of bread onto a grill it will soak up all the grease from the grill. Of course you can argue why not order another type of bread and would have, had I known the size and thickness of the brioche slice in advance such as a description or image of what to expect. Plus cooking logic tells you it’s not a good idea to offer that type of bread for that particular sandwich. Second, I requested spinach and there were roughly 4 pieces of withered spinach leaves soaked into the cheese. Third, the sandwich was wrapped in material that will not release steam so the bread retained moisture. I have no idea what cheese it came with because it wasn’t listed on their menu which has had typos on it for years. For these reasons I threw most of it away and picked on small pieces. Last, the roasted potatoes I ordered as a side was oily. It was only oily potatoes with no sort of a small amount of veggies to add flavor and quality. Such as perhaps a few scallions and peppers. I can purchase an entire 5lb bag of potatoes for $3.25. Also roasted potatoes should not be oily. That too was served in a container which retained moisture so I’m lucky I live close and picked it up quickly otherwise it would’ve been entirely inedible although most of it was thrown away as well. I haven’t ordered a smoothie in several months because they now charge for the cup it comes in. I’m sure you can come up with a lot of reasons to do that but that is weird for a drink that was already overpriced. The parking garage and parking in front is awkward. If there was a better local place in Danbury to buy breakfast from I would be there in a heartbeat. Unfortunately due to the lack of quality breakfast competition in the area I find myself reluctant to order from this location. At least they attempt to offer gluten free items, freshly baked and health based items such as smoothies and fresh salads so that is why I’m giving 2.5 stars. To hear that they may or have opened up new locations I can only assume it must be due to what they charge for food and the appeal of the fresh selection offered, and little to do with the location, price, quality...
Read moreWhile Mothership on Main has a vast menu of unique and gourmet-sounding breakfast options, I’m going to have to agree with the minority of reviews here and say that the restaurant is largely overrated.
Mothership has its own, albeit small, parking lot, with limited spaces in front of the building and a small parking garage in the back. Going on a Saturday around noon time wasn’t the best idea as the restaurant was packed. The estimated wait time to be seated wasn’t bad, around 15 minutes total, however that was just to get a table. My guest and I were sat in the middle of the restaurant at a table meant for four (no big deal), but no menu was offered until about 15 minutes later when we stopped the waitstaff for them.
The waitstaff graciously accepted our request for a smaller table, as my friend couldn’t comfortably sit in one of the stools. And once we had menus, the server was quick to make her way to the table, speedily offering drinks and recommending specials.
In terms of the food, I ordered a hazelnut latte and the “Hot to Trot.” I specialized it to short ribs and sunny side up eggs. The coffee was beautifully presented with great latte art and was a nice “pick me up” to start the meal. The entree however was lacking seasoning and the vegetables were slightly overcooked. The hot sauce provided tasted more like chili paste and lacked the essential heat to add a better flavor profile to the dish. The meal was in no way “bad,” but it felt very lack luster in comparison to the descriptions and accompanying pictures online.
The atmosphere overall felt very kid friendly, but didn’t match the expectations of the eclectic name. A seating area for patrons waiting for their table would be helpful and it would be nice to have paper napkins on the table, in addition to more decor. With the subpar food and lack of ambiance, I couldn’t help but feel like I was at a glorified diner, as opposed to a hopping and up and coming, modern restaurant.
Respectfully, I would like to see what service Mothership has to offer on a weekday perhaps, when the restaurant...
Read moreI usually don’t have a lot of time to write reviews of any sort. but I feel it’s important for the owners of this establishment to be aware of my experience today. The young girl taking my order today was completely unequipped to take a food order and ensure that it was accurate. She literally confused me with everything she was saying so I cannot adequately explain how it all went down. When our meals were brought to our table, we discovered that she had given us an extra set of eggs and toast. Being there with three little ones, I did not have the time to go through the process of being reimbursed (the man serving us the food did not offer to be of any help when I told him there was an extra meal-he just stared at me blankly). So we just kept it. Given how pricey the bill was for my family, I would have preferred not to have paid for the extra food. Now rewind back to when I was ordering: the girl taking my order handed me my hot coffee with a lid that was not put on properly and it immediately spilled over as I took it from her. She stared at me blankly for about ten seconds and said flatly “do you want ice?” No apologies from her, no sense of urgency to make sure I wasn’t burned. The other cashier was completely unfazed as well. They were much more concerned about cleaning up the mess. I then stood at the side of the counter waiting for my replacement coffee and she barked at me “I’ll bring it to you at your table!” ...
