It’s a cozy café with a welcoming spirit that wraps around you the moment you walk in—starting with the gracious smile of Vivek, who makes you feel like a cherished guest in his home. His warmth and pride in the restaurant shine through as he speaks about the chef’s artistry, the freshness of the herbs and spices, and the care taken to ensure the meat is halal.

The food is nothing short of magnificent. Each entrée arrives piping hot, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. We’ve tried several dishes, and every one has been consistently lovely—rich, authentic, and deeply satisfying.

And then there’s the chai tea—always on the house. Vivek prepares it himself and sets it out for guests to enjoy during their visit. It’s a quiet gesture, but one that speaks volumes about the kind of experience Tabla offers: thoughtful, generous, and full of heart.

We decided to try out a new spot in Danville and made the drive from Dublin for a Saturday night dinner. It’s a cozy little place with just a few tables, so it has more of a takeout vibe, but we were able to grab a table.

We ordered French fries, Garlic Naan, Bullet Naan, Tandoori Roti, Shahi Paneer, and Gongura Veg Biryani. The breads were amazing – super thin and perfectly done, just the way we like them! The Shahi Paneer was tasty, though I think it could use a bit more spice. I’d never tried Gongura Veg Biryani before, so I was curious to give it a shot. The Gongura gives it a unique green color (not your typical red biryani!) and a distinct flavor. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but I enjoyed it more with each bite. The biryani had a fresh, vibrant flavor.

What really stood out was the warm hospitality from Vivek, who took our order. He made sure everything was spiced just right for us and even checked in to see if we liked each dish. I'm surprised but happy for this small business to have such strong reviews. It's just not my favorite spot in town. We got takeout and the portion size of chicken Tikka masala was generous but came with the tiniest amount of rice. The chicken was dry and had clearly been cooked on a skewer then tossed in sauce vs simmered etc because every piece had a skewer hole...and the couple eating there when I walked in was eating chicken skewers. We ordered medium spicy & there was no heat to it at all. Now to each their own, but I like naan fluffy and soft and theirs was very thin and on the chewy side, more like chapati. The samosas were in desperate need of chutney which it didn't come with, but that was remedied by dipping it in the Tikka masala sauce, then it was delicious (but again the sauce wasn't spicy enough for my taste but was good for a chutney replacement). It wasn't bad but based on the chewiness of the chicken + everything mentioned above, it's just not going to be my top choice for Indian in the area.
