To put it in a simple comparison it's like Cracker Barrel but with a buffet. Everything is home cooking. The pans in the buffet are small so that everything stays fresh. They check the bar constantly. There hasn't been anything served there that wasn't delicious. They serve 3 different meats each day like breaded tenderloins, chicken tenders, and meat loaf. Or Kentucky hot brown, pork chops and pepper steak. And on Friday's they have home made salmon patties, catfish and pepper steak. Their sides are always fresh and great. Mashed potatoes, macaroni, corn, green beans, cabbage, fried potatoes, small whole potatoes, and always have brown beans and pan fried cornbread. They have home made desserts like peach or cherry cobbler, and home made pies like apple, cherry, and a killer peanut butter pie. And one time I asked about a buttermilk pie and the lady told me she would make one and what day she would have it. That's a special touch I haven't seen anywhere else. They have a salad bar with the usual items along with fresh fruit. And on the weekends it's a breakfast bar. They have polish sausage, country ham, sausage links, bacon, gravy and fresh biscuits, waffles and pancakes, eggs fixed a few different ways, and fruits and salad. I just can't say enough about this place. You don't leave there hungry. You definitely get your money's worth. They are only open from about 730 to 3pm though, and start the lunch buffet at 11, but the weekend breakfast bar opens at 730 I think and goes all day. Its 8.99 for the buffet or 3.99 a pound for carry out and worth every penny. If I could eat there every day I would. I've lived here in Boyle County all my life and only recently discovered the place and now I'm trying to make everyone I know aware of it. And the place is super clean. And has two rooms for...
Read moreI seek out local places even though my local contact that I was in town to do business with recommended the chain restaurants.
I could forgive the heat in a mom and pop trying to pay for overhead in a small town and even the hair my wife found in her burger but something fishy is going on when the waitress does not put the price on the bill until you get to the register then writes 7.99 for a burger that was clearly marked on the menu as 5.99. When asked about it the owners granddaughter denied the difference at first then said the price had changed and they had not got the new menus yet, then said the price of mushrooms was high this week so they had to charge more. $2 for 1 mushroom? on a tiny burger.
I obviously I paid the out of towner tax, although members of my family have lived in the area for 100 years and I was in town looking for a house for my MIL.
Sad, no more southern...
Read moreI have loved The red rooster since the first time I walked in the building. The small country cafe is well known for their delicious food and mom and pop style dining. Not to mention every order is made fresh when you order it! This done mean there are wait times, approximately 5-15 minutes depending of customer volume. They offer lunch and breakfast during the cafe's regular hours. You may also want to check out their lunch bar as an option opened on Tuesday-Friday (only), and their breakfast bar served on Saturday and Sunday (only). The business is currently being ran by Angela curtsinger again and I'd like to say this is overall an amazing place to eat! Your taste buds will miss it when you leave! The customer service is great, and the environment is so friendly. Worth a try for a meal your swear...
