Plaid Elephant Books serves as one of the few independent booksellers still around and we are so fortunate to have them in this beautiful oasis in the Bluegrass.

Known as a children’s bookstore at first, Kate and team have worked hard to inclusively offer all ages and Worldviews access to great literature. I love seeing Kate’s presence in the community, the offering of courses and workshops to keep kids engaged in the arts (our favorites have been the mosaic workshops and the comic book course), and her passionate welcoming for everyone into the fantastical world of the written word. My favorite though: the giving. The selfless giving and not a word of complaint to those in the community do all can access equitably and equally. The free books at the holidays both public facing and behind the scenes. The discounted programs. All of it done without a desire of acknowledgement.

A true gem. Not only is this shop adorable and cozy and everything a bookshop focusing on kiddos should be, there's events and activities that make us wish we lived in the neighborhood instead of a bit of a drive away. That said, we find it worth the drive from Jessamine, easily.

The knowledgeable staff, especially the owner Kate, makes sure everyone feels welcome and seen. She takes the time to help kiddos find what they might be looking for, so they can feel independent and inspired to explore.

As a parent and a book lover, Plaid Elephant Books is one of my favorite places in Danville, KY. Not only is Plaid Elephant filled with wonder and whimsy, it is filled with books that have allowed my children to fall in love with reading! My children (four and six) ask just about every week to go to Plaid Elephant and have since this special place opened in Danville three years ago. Young people from all walks of life can walk through the doors and find themselves represented in a story and that is beautiful and should be applauded! As a parent who tries to raise mindful children being able to purchase books on the topics of race, consent, etc. that are accurate and developmentally appropriate creates an open conversation for my children and I. I will forever be grateful that Kate opened the doors at Plaid Elephant and I hope it’s a place that we can visit for years and...
