In early August of this year (225), I was one of the rare patients to have bilateral total knee replacement at Ephraim McDowell. With so many low ratings and negative reviews, I was concerned about having it there. However, it is where the surgeon works and it is close to home. The bottom line is that this was by far the most outstanding hospital experience I have ever had for myself or by others such as family and friends that I have seen! They were great in every way: Communication: a couple weeks prior to the procedure, they had me and my wife attend a class where they reviewed every aspect of what to expect before, during and after surgery. They provided a binder with all of that and more. At the hospital, they continually kept me and my family informed of throughout the experience. Professionalism: I was brought back as scheduled, delt with respectfully and politely yet with the personalness I have come to expect and enjoy in Danville. Responsiveness: After I was admitted following surgery, any and every time I pressed the call button, a nurse or tech would either immediately respond over the intercom and/or come into the room within literally a few minutes. They took care of my needs with kindness and compassion. They were truly a pleasure to deal with! Cleanliness/hygiene: This is my area of expertise. I am recently retired, but my profession included assessing hospitals for regulatory compliance as well as performing to industry standards as it relates to cleaning and hand hygiene for infection prevention. Ephraim McDowell would have certainly received my highest score! It is as clean as any hospital I have ever seen, including restrooms, non-public areas, the operating suites and patient rooms. I watched a few of the Environmental Services techs as they cleaned. The products and procedures they used were excellent! Results: The surgery was a total success and now that a few months have passed, I am mostly recovered and enjoying the benefits of my new knees! The surgeon, Dr. Jeremy Tarter, was awesome, couldn't have been better! The PT I received from Ephraim McDowell Home Health and at the McDowell Center was excellent and effective. I know my experience was better than so many others that left negative reviews, so they must have improved since those were posted. I am totally grateful for how outstanding everyone at Ephraim McDowell was in making sure my surgery went well and my experience...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreComing here to write a review, years later but gave birth to my first child here. It was the worst experience I ever had. I have had children after being here and never realized how God awful they truly are. I was scared and young and they had no empathy for me, acting like my labor pain was invalid. They didn't want to be patient and rushed me into a C-section without proper medication, even when I was dilating on time. Which ruined my chances of ever giving natural birth. I felt wayyy more than I should've and when I tried to speak up about the pain, one of the doctors grabbed my hand and smacked it and told me to stop. All my other births, I had someone at my head to support me, doctor wise, not here. She came to me one time and said, we're giving you medicine now and walked away. (mid way through the surgery.) One of the nurses who helped bathed me was a family member to my ex and she kept making jokes about my body to the whole family. I was later at a Christmas gathering and she tells everyone how nice my booty is. Even I know that is against HIPPA. They made me terrified of hospitals because the way I was treated. I had to stay extra days than I was suppose to, to recover from the terrible surgery job they did. I had to do physical therapy to recover. They left something in my incision that had to later be surgically be removed at another hospital. I now suffer a lot after this, I have had episodes where I get super light headed and pass out which never happened prior to this. Anytime I bend over, I almost faint, which I also never experienced prior to this. I think they pick up doctors and nurses of the streets to be honest. I don't know how they're not facing a huge lawsuit and they would have if I had money at that time. Not to mention, I never even knew about the nursery. I had no support with me and they allowed me to be in severe pain, traumatized and care for a new born all myself, in a medical bed where I can barely move. The only time they "helped me" is when they had to do checks on her. I wanted to breastfeed and they went behind my back and gave my child formula, brought me back a bunch of bottles and acted as if I had no choice to use formula instead, not even giving me the change to try. Absolute trash hospital. I wouldn't recommend going here to my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām a nurse of 39 years having worked 60-72 hours a week every week all my life plus raise my daughters only 40 hours until they left for college. Often working 2 jobs. So I know how things are handled. During pandemic I worked at a Long Term Care facility whereād Iād been 6 years and a job I was able to retire at until I received mandatory flu vaccine after the COVID vaccines and contracted Giuliani Barre Syndrome-an Autoimmune disease caused by flu vaccine that attacks nervous system, muscular system and immune system making it highly susceptible to any virus or anything. My chest had swelling into my armpit & chest pains became so severe I drove myself having no one near to ER. I was put on a stretcher in hallway. I was given aspirin and steroids because myocarditis/pericarditis also side effects of vaccine were suspected but I was told I needed further test & treatments because left untreated would cause damage to my heart. Both my parents have lived well into their 90ās with no heart disease and Iāve never had anything either. My blood pressure was 200 plus over 100 plus , canāt remember actual numbers & they never documented on my discharge notes because I was released with it still being dangerously high &given a script for meloxicam. While there in open hallway after mentioned to several care givers I have GBS a woman approached saying I had no insurance & could set up payments even after o explained I was pulled from my job & my Short term disability just ran out. 2 rooms became available yet they wheeled a conscience Hispanic man into a room and told him to sign because he didnāt have insurance his entire bill would be paid. Now if this isnāt racism against a USA White working woman with a condition that could kill me o donāt know what it is but yesterday I got a Covil Summons from an attorney James Vonsock suing me for $2,790 plus 6% interest saying for goods, wares, and merchandise. Laws in Kentucky Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) protect people like me in emergency situations and no insurance. So Iām not sure how this will end but all US and State Congress and officials will hear my story and Iāll write another review on here. Also Iām still unable to work and placed on...
