My girlfriend and I ate dinner here on a Sunday evening during a time where it wasn’t outrageously busy nor terribly slow. Our server’s name was Michael and he had a very deep understanding of the menu (appetizers, entrées, desserts, and drinks synonymously) and an even better ability to explain and translate menu items into a very simple and comprehensible format. On top of these two amazing aspects, he was very friendly, congenial, and repeatedly emphasized that there was indeed zero rush for us to make a decision on what we desired to eat. Also, he informed us that if we ever needed anything during our time being there to feel more than free to reach out to him. He was consistently checking up on us and made sure that we were enjoying our experience to the full effect, to which we did beyond the shadow of a doubt.
Moving on, when the time came around to order our food, I decided to go with one of the daily featured entrées. It consisted of sesame seed crusted ahi tuna, cooked medium rare (as per the chef’s suggestion) on a bed of basmati rice with teriyaki glaze and jumbo grilled asparagus. This meal was one of the ones recommended to us by our waiter and I’m more than happy that I decided to give it a try. The ahi tuna was flawlessly prepared and cooked with no flavor overpowering the other. The basmati rice with the teriyaki glaze was also wonderful with the perfect degree of stickiness and combating flavor from the teriyaki. On the other hand, the jumbo grilled asparagus was a quintessential al dente. For dessert, we decided to split another featured recommended dessert that did not disappoint. It was the bourbon chocolate mousse garnished with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Humorously, it did not last long enough for either of us to snap a picture of it but a snapshot does not do justice to how delicious it was. The taste of the bourbon, chocolate, and whipped cream was a perfect combination to satisfy our taste buds that hadn’t previously been attended to. The texture was light yet rich with the egginess from the mousse. All in all, the food combined with the service made for the most perfect dining experience I have ever had in respect to those two separate areas of dining.
Last but not least is the atmosphere that this remarkable establishment gives character to. Located in historic downtown Danville, we were looking for a place that was on the higher end of quality and excellence but still maintained a laid back type of style when it came to restaurants in the surrounding area. Copper & Oak just so happened to be advocated to me by a very good friend of mine and it met every inch of my aspiration that I held and previously stated and then some. They are heavily focused on a farm to table type of cuisine (which is starting to be uncommon and hard to find in restaurants nowadays) with high regards to vegetarian options, dietary restrictions, and I will even go on to say and include picky eaters in that list. While some may say that the prices are on the higher end of the spectrum when it comes to food and eating in restaurants I will vouch for you right now and claim that it is worth every penny that you pay for the experience you’ll have and food you will eat alike. This will surely be a top pick for me in the future and I will most definitely recommend Copper & Oak to anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to dine in such a gem that this wonderful place just so...

From the moment we stepped into Copper and Oak, it was clear that this was no ordinary dining experience. The atmosphere, effortlessly relaxed yet refined, immediately set the tone for what would be an evening to remember. The space, with its warm lighting and rustic charm, envelops you in a sense of comfort that invites long conversations and leisurely meals. Yet, it’s the cuisine that truly elevates this restaurant into the realm of something exceptional.
The service, too, was impeccable. Caroline, our server, was the epitome of professionalism and charm. Attentive without being intrusive, she anticipated our needs with a precision that only the most skilled can manage, transforming an already enjoyable experience into something seamless and memorable.
But it was the food that truly stole the show. Each dish was a testament to the skill and artistry of the kitchen. The fried calamari, a perfect introduction to the meal, was crisp yet tender, with each ring expertly cooked to a delicate golden brown. Paired with a balanced aioli that brought out the subtle sweetness of the squid, it was a simple dish elevated by careful attention to detail.
The honey-glazed chicken with Brussels sprouts quickly became my personal favorite. The chicken, tender and succulent, was kissed by the right amount of sweetness, while the Brussels sprouts, caramelized to perfection, offered a satisfying contrast. The dish was a harmonious blend of flavors, each bite better than the last, underscoring the chef’s ability to balance complex profiles with finesse.
Equally memorable was the bourbon Cajun pasta—a dish that was nothing short of spectacular. The creamy, spicy sauce enveloped the pasta in layers of flavor, while the smokiness of the bourbon provided depth without overwhelming the senses. The portion size was generous yet refined, offering the kind of hearty satisfaction that never veers into excess.
In a landscape where dining out can sometimes feel like a series of rushed courses designed for speed rather than indulgence, Copper and Oak stands as a reminder of what a true culinary experience can be. It is not simply about eating; it is about savoring, about finding joy in the nuances of taste, and about connecting with the rhythm of the meal itself.
In sum, Copper and Oak is a triumph of both flavor and hospitality. The chef’s dedication to quality and balance is evident in every dish, and Caroline’s service is the perfect complement to an evening of exceptional dining. If you’re looking for a place where food and atmosphere come together in perfect harmony, Copper and Oak should be at the top...
Read moreFood Fun Adventure Saturday took Fat Man Reviews to Copper and Oak in Danville, KY. Copper and Oak offers a speakeasy type vibe with gourmet meals and custom cocktails.
I started with a Blackberry Old Fashioned made with Knob Creek Rye, muddled and puréed blackberries, fresh lemon juice and bitters. The drink was very well-balanced and quite refreshing and not overly sweet.
My fiancé tried a Prom Trotter made with gin infused with raspberries, lemon juice, fresh mint and simple syrup. The drink was light, but the mint was pretty much all that you could taste.
We tried the Hot Honey Potato Chips. These are hand cut chips tossed in homemade hot honey and drizzled with spicy Korean gochujang. The chips were crunchy, sweet, spicy and delicious. Like kettle cooked BBQ chips turned up to 11.
For dinner, I had the Signature Copper & Oak burger. Two patties with white cheddar, house made bourbon glaze, lettuce, red onion, garlic aioli and served with hand cut fries. The burger was juicy and seasoned well. The bun was sweet and worked well with the entire meal. I only found that it needed a bit more of the bourbon glaze to round out the saltiness. The fries were great as well, crunchy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. They offer several sauces with their fries which we sampled. They were tasty and I recommend them as well.
My fiancé tried the Bacon Jam Burger, served with bacon jam, white cheddar, red onion, lettuce and garlic aioli. Like my burger it was juicy, and it tasted great but again needed some more of the bacon jam as it was superb.
Copper and Oak was a neat little joint that offered several items on the menu from sharables, small plates, burgers to full entrées. The restaurant was decorated well, and the staff was very nice. I highly recommend a reservation if you go. The Fat Man says that Copper and Oak is Fat...
