I want to start off by saying I enjoyed my meal, my wife not as much. If you want to know why it's only 3 stars, read on. When rating places, I think people tend to do 5 stars if they like it and 1 if they don't and we need better info than that. The place had very high ratings so we checked it out. I'll break it down to simple pro/cons.
PRO: Shawarma was tasty to me, hummus was good, and the chili sauce was awesome as it usually is. The restaurant is casual but nice inside.
CON: I get it Danville, but $2.50 for a soda can from a mini fridge is on the high side for anywhere but a movie theater, a solid 1000% markup for profits but no biggie. My wife is Arabic and loves Arabic food, but noted that all of her dishes lacked spice or strong flavors, and I could even agree to a level of blandness. It didn't bother me but it did her. We had shawarma, dolma, lentil soup, and hummus.
Overall, it was good not great for me, and it was a bit disappointing for her. I might go again but I'd definitely try somewhere else first. Don't think it's a bad spot but there might be somewhere better and I'll update my review. If I find out there isn't.
5- favorite one of a kind, 4- Great, 3- Good, 2-Not worth it, 1- Horrible....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this place. I was attending a workshop in the same shopping center and happened upon it after the first day. We ate there for dinner after the workshop even though not hungry but wanted to try it as I had lived in Turkey for a few years and this place smelled like the restaurants we would frequent there. The food was great the staff was exceptionally friendly (elderly lady helped me at counter). We talked about Turkey and she helped me with the Turkish phrases I remembered ( -: The second day of the workshop, we ate there for lunch even though our lunch was provided at the event. We talked some more and before we left she brought out the whole family to shake hands and say hello. They enjoyed my attempts at Turkish as well. After workshop, we ate dinner there with some of the other attendees and they treated us like traditional guests in their own home teaching us about Turkish traditions and adding a little extra to the experience . The food was great but most of all the experience was above and beyond rewarding. This is now a must stop anytime I venture anywhere into the bay area. Adana Kabob, Shish Kabob lamb,,, and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHaving recently relocated to Danville and sampled a wide array of authentic Middle Eastern cuisines, I felt compelled to share a thoughtful review of my experience. While the portions were undeniably generous, I found the overall quality of the food and level of service to be somewhat disproportionate to the pricing.
The establishment struck me as more akin to a casual cafĆ© rather than a full-service restaurant, particularly in terms of ambiance and attentiveness, which fell short of what one might expect when paying nearly $20 for a Shawarma platter. As a restaurant owned and operated by individuals of Middle Eastern heritageāand as someone hailing from a region renowned for its rich culinary traditions, including the celebrated Turkish Delight confectionsāI believe this establishment aligns more closely with the concept of an upscale cafĆ© rather than a traditional restaurant. While it has its merits, there is room for refinement to better justify its pricing and elevate the...
