We all have bad days, and I completely get it but the treatment I received today from Andi was unnecessary to say the least. My order was simple, a blended (their version of frozen) vanilla with an affogato shot on top…one 16 ounce with whip and drizzle and one 12 ounce without the whip and drizzle. Apparently, my order was not that simple. I stood to the side and watched as Andi began making my drinks and noticed she was pouring a coffee mixture over ice so I walked up and asked her if she was making a vanilla blended for an affogato shot to which she replied “that’s for ice cream”. Let’s be real here, my order was an “ice cream” drink with a shot of espresso poured over it. I mentioned to Andi that I just asked for a vanilla blended with the shot over it and she said “that’s what I’m making.” So, I let her finish and thought to myself, everyone has their style of making drinks, I’ll just wait and see. But, when Andi served my drinks on the counter with the coffee-colored, blended drinks and the espresso on the side and said “here’s your shot” (with attitude might I add), I just simply got back in line to receive a refund. It was evident to me at that point that somewhere between me placing an order and Andi serving my order, she got upset. The barista who originally took my order was the one who attempted to assist me with my refund, but Andi felt the need to chime in stating “may I ask why?” I said sure you can, I simply asked for drinks and you did not make what I asked for and the service was very poor. She then began trying to argue with me, and I insisted for my refund and wished her a better rest of her day. The barista trying to help me apologized and I said “it’s ok” and then quickly corrected myself and said “actually it’s not ok; I have never been treated this way here or anywhere else”. It was completely uncalled for, and I will not return to Soul Caffeine for this reason. Customer service is huge for me, and I know that we all have moments and/or people that rub us wrong, but to argue and treat a customer the way Andi did today and try to justify herself with her actions, is just poor...
Read moreTl;dr it's a really cute, small business and I will definitely stop by to try more of their flavored lattes if I'm in the area again. My bagel tasted freezer burned, but was good otherwise. Not a great place for those with limited mobility though.
Came here on a road trip and got the iced salted caramel latte and a basil pesto, egg, and goat cheese sandwich (added bacon) The coffee was a really good roast and the salted caramel flavor was INSANELY good. I highly recommend it. I think it might be even better hot.
The sandwich had a lot of promise, but it tasted a bit freezer burned to me. Some people can't taste freezer burn, but I am, unfortunately, not amongst that group. The bagel had a great, classic chewy texture, the goat cheese was delightfully crumbly and creamy, and the basil pesto was delightfully basil forward. The bacon was chewy and not crispy, which isn't my preference, but is also pretty standard on breakfast sandwiches.
I do wish they had some more couches/loveseats and power outlets (average of 2 individual outlets per two tables), but that may just be because I am a college student.
There were not any handicapped parking spots that I could see and the ramp that led up to the sidewalk was blocked by a car. There wasn't a lot of space for wheelchair movement either. If they could paint over two parking spaces in front of the ramp and move a few tables around, it would be a lot more accessible.
They play Christian music and have a lot of Bible verses on the wall/decor. I went around 6:30 am and there were a bunch of what appeared to be older men's Bible study groups inside and outside. I'm not Christian, but I do love when I see a business that is very up front on what they believe and have an obvious mission.
5 stars for the coffee 3 for the bagel 3 for the vibes/decor I value the coffee at coffee shops over decor/food, so it gets a solid 4 stars overall. Definitely try a...
Read moreSoul Caffeine is easily my favorite place to hang out during the week. I work a remote job, but enjoy the charm of working from a coffeeshop. The WiFi can be spotty, but the workspace is great (stand-up height tables are great!), there's a comfortable hum of activity, and the owners and baristas have become great personal friends over the year I've been in the area. They treat customers with integrity and kindness, and I enjoy trying new things with their help!
And with Starbucks at $7 for a sugar-coated drink that only hints at coffee, the prices at Soul Caffeine are very reasonable. The owners also support and promote local events, charities and ministries — that makes my iced latte taste even better :)
My favorite drinks are flavored iced lattes — they helped wean me off Starbucks frapps, and Soul Caffeine (especially Mallory and Gabe!) does some of the best espresso pulls I've had anywhere: creamy smooth with almost no bite. You can go syrupless to really taste the amazing espresso with a Honey Cinnamon iced latte (ask for actual honey and cinnamon, not to be confused with...
