Unfortunately, this may have been the worst dining experience I have had. Can typically enjoy something about a place, the atmosphere, the food, the service; but this was all bad. I hadn't been here in years and I remember why now. It was so gross to start, everything was dirty, the floor was sticky, the buffet cart was filthy, our shoes even stuck to the carpet. If you haven't been here the schtick is that you get your own frozen meats, veggies, noodles, and sauces and then they cook it for you. The meats were all thawing out and getting mushy in their containers and when they cook the food they move it all around the grill so that it doesn't matter what sauces you got, you end up getting some of everyone's so it all tastes the same. Our server was nice, but barely spoke to us, didn't explain how the restaurant works at all, if I hadn't been before I would have had no idea. This was also one of the most expensive meals I had had in quite some time. I know everyone is raising prices, but $15 for one trip because I didn't want to eat any more was crazy (It's $15 for 1 trip or $16 for all you can eat). We almost left before eating and I wish we would have, didn't get sick, but the quality of the food was so bad, the meat had no taste and horrible texture, just felt gross having ate it. Go to Huhot instead! Better food, better atmosphere, and I think hiho is just as...
Read moreDefinetely a different experience! You choose what you want stir-fried in your bowl and hand it to the fryer; it makes for a unique dining experience. The food is pretty good - but the variety is lacking (unlike most buffets). What is offered, though, is good quality. Fresh veggies of all sorts, chicken/pork/beef/crab/shrimp, noodles, and a variety of cooking sauces. Yes, the meat is frozen initially, but it has to be - it's raw until your meal is cooked. It's wonderful being able to customize your meal how you want it - perfect for vegetarians or those on a diet. The service is lacking - but the waiter was very polite and he was the only guy waiting on people and handling the register so you can't blame him. The place could use some ambient music and more decor - it seems more like a fast-food joint. A good value overall though, since you can load up and take the extras home with you. A warning to newbies: your bowl will be HOT - be careful or you can get burned (like I did). Not...
Read moreI've been coming here since this place opened and it has always been somewhere I have to go to when I visit. This visit has shown this place has really declined. Don't waste your time putting any of the sauces or oils on the food because when they cook it they are just going to drown it in water. They do this because it keeps the food from sticking to the cooking surface while they are cooking it. It completely waters down the food and it is nothing but laziness. When it first opened they used minimal water and just cleaned the grill between bowls of food. This made it so the food actually had flavor. Save your time and go to HuHot on 53rd. It was always more expensive but at least it tastes good.
Update: I just watched the same cook make a meal for one of the other employees...he used one little squirt of water. The cooking staff are lazy and the customers suffer for it. I have no interest in patronizing this restaurant anymore. I suggest you...
