Update to the last update: I've been reading reviews and some of these folks are very incorrect: just because another restaurant serves a dish a particular way doesn't mean Chee Kong does. Just because "soup has ALWAYS come with a dinner" hasn't been true of TAKE OUT meals since they opened - and I have eaten there literally since the day they opened because my best friend was one of their first waitresses. And who places an enormous order right before close? So the store should whip up an enormous batch of sauces just for your order? They probably should have been informed before they placed the order, or called after it was discovered they didn't have enough of whatever, this is true. People DO NOT place big orders before close. Or enter through the exit door when the entrance was locked because it was after closing, but the stragglers needed to be able to leave. Servers hate that. Yes, it's their job but stand on concrete all day and see how you feel about 10 people coming in through the exit door after you've locked the entrance door that has a large CLOSED sign on it (and everyone has complicated add this/take this off, use equipment you've just cleaned, etc- ALWAYS). As for vegetables? Yes, fewer vegetables (by a lot) since they opened - the place is fortunate to have made it through the pandemic and it's struggling. Still the best tasting Chinese food in Davison, by a lot. My entire family won't go anywhere else in the area.
Update: the newest owners have made substantial changes in the food, very much for the better. We've had takeout several times in the past year and the food is again very good. Certainly, Chee Kong gives one an enormous amount of value for the cost- my husband gets two meals out of each takeout meal and I get three! Nice folks and certainly MUCH friendlier than the previous owner, who was the Chinese restaurant version of Basil Fawlty of the British comedy Fawlty Towers.
I have eaten here since Chee Kong opened its doors over 30 years ago. It has seen a lot of ups and downs. Lately, down seems to be the predominant direction.
The food at present is better since the management change than previously. The food has become so cheapened that it wasn't worth eating any longer. I can handle the duct-taped chairs and ancient tables if the food is good, but when food, ambience, and service is all consistently terrible there is no point any longer.
With the previous owners, one had to know when the good cook was working because he ignored the owners and made the food well. It was obvious when he wasn't working because the food was terrible and anything remotely expensive was left out of the dishes. At present, the food seems to have stabilized to a point midway between great and terrible. I suppose that could be viewed as progress of a sort.
This is still the best Chinese style restaurant in Davison, but it is sad to see the decline...
Read moreUnfortunately, my experience wasn't very pleasant. I went in to order soup today and the service and the soup was horrible. Instead of the lady greeting me properly, she yells "can I help you?" from the back of the restaurant where she was wrapping utensils. I thought "Wow", it would make more sense for her to come down to the register to help me, considering I was ordering takeout. When she walked down to the register, she asked why was I looking at her the way that I was. I responded, "because that is the way that you are looking at me". She says, "first time"? I said, "yes". She never greeted me at all and while I was waiting for my soup, I was wondering, should I even get the soup. Well, when I make it home and attempt to eat the soup, it did not have any taste or flavor to the soup at all (Hot and Sour). I called to let them know about their soup and that I was not happy. The lady said I could bring back for refund; She did not offer an apology. She was just down right "RUDE". So, I was refunded $8.53. Needless to say, I will never go back there. I read one of the previous reviews, where they received good service and that the manager was a man. I wasn't so lucky! I hope other people have a...
