This was an interesting experience. I enjoyed it overall, but I don't know if I'd go back unless I'm going with friends. There wasn't much on the menu I could eat because it was it either wasn't poultry or fish, or it utilized alcohol in it, and that combo proved to be problematic, but understandable for the establishment.
I ended up going with a turkey grilled cheese which turned out to be quite tastey, though the turkey was a tad dry, which most turkey is. But it was roast turkey instead of something processed, which was very nice to see. The flavor was phenomenal, though. And the fries were also delicious that it came with. The Wisconsin Cheese Curds with the spicy thai sauce was an extremely pleasant surprise, however. Being from Wisconsin, they passed our taste test, and the dipping sauce was unusual but so amazing. I would go here again just for this appetizer.
The service was kind of weird for my friend who came with us. He got the wrong dish, but it was one of the two that he was deciding between so he was fine with it. He also didn't get the beverage he asked for, but at least we weren't charged for the beverages, so it turned out ok in the end.
The atmosphere would have been nice if it wasn't so packed full of people, though. It was extremely loud in there and got even louder when a live, two person band started playing on the stage. It's nice that they had live entertainment, but it was a tad too loud for my tastes, so this is entirely a personal opinion.
Aside from that, the staff was friendly if a bit overworked at this time of the evening. The wait for a table was fairly minimal. And the food was pretty good for what we had gotten. Would I come back here again next time I'm in town? Maybe. It is a nice building and the exterior is gorgeous. If my friends wanted to head there at a quieter time, maybe lunch, I think I'd enjoy the experience more. If I do end up doing that, I might update this review. But for now, I'll have to leave it at 4 stars because I won't be back in town until next year. If I do go back, though, I'm for sure getting those cheese...
Read moreWe excitedly stopped in Saturday afternoon for dinner after having a good recommendation and reviews. We seated ourselves and were waited for 15 minutes before two menus were dropped off for our party of four, and we placed our drink orders. The drinks came out fast and we’re correct. Unfortunately shortly after, an elderly patron had a medical episode right next to our seats. The staff had no clue what to do and seemed to even care less about this women’s situation. I asked the bar tender to call 911, to which he responded, why? Before then calling emergency services. My girlfriend and another kind patron attended to the women, with staff staying completely uninvolved and away. A collared shirt employee came over and stood there silent for a minute, then walked away and into the back. A third patron and myself moved all the dining room tables and chairs with no staff assistance, so the emergency services could reach the injured. (mind you this was in the main portion of the restaurant left and directly in front of the bar). I then walked over and asked a server if a manager had been informed on what was happening, and the employee that earlier stood there silent decided the right thing to do at that point was come totally out from behind the bar to aggressively raise his voice to me saying “don’t lie, I was just standing over there, and what do you want me to do?!” Needless to say after this aggressive gesture, I decided that me and my party would be leaving. I paid for our drinks at the bar and we left as soon as the emergency services came in. The staff should be ashamed of the way the emergency situation was handled and the aggressive attitude towards a concerned patron. Kudos to the Dayton Emergency Services for a quick response, and I really hope the elderly women who was obviously injured has a fast recovery. We ended up going right down the road to the Troll Pub and had wonderful service...
Read moreLess than pleased with our experience on St. Patrick's Day- We were charged 15 dollars each to get in after an employee had told us a few days prior it would be 10. Okay, not a big deal. They were out of two dishes we wanted to order around 4 p.m. When we got our food, only one of the two dishes we ordered came out without the condiment we ordered. It was shrimp and chips, and instead of the large, freshly beer-battered shrimp they normally serve, we were served panko breaded frozen butterfly shrimp they just deep fried that cost the same amount as the ones they normally serve. It wasn't even the same amount of shrimp, and this was not noted anywhere on the menu. When our server came back to check on us after about fifteen or twenty minutes, we had to let her know we were missing our condiment and other dish. She blamed it on the kitchen, even though she didn't even realize either were missing to begin with. When we received our other dish after about another ten or fifteen minutes, it was cold and missing the roll it was supposed to come with. The server was friendly but, frankly, seemed a little more than tipsy and would take a very long time to get back to us or even visit the room in which we were sitting. I did expect slower service, given the large crowd, but we waited nearly an hour in between the second to last and last time we saw her with no acknowledgement on her part. The drinks were marked up a lot, which I suppose is to be expected, too, but what really ticked me off, on top of everything else, was being charged an "entertainment fee" on our bill. Seriously? We already paid 15 dollars each to get in and weren't even sitting in the same room as the band. Very greedy and shady business practices. This experience actually made me want to stop coming here altogether. I would like to note the service and food here has been inconsistent in the past, and we kept giving it chances...
