It’s Mike from Uncle Mikes reviews.. I used to be a paid secret shopper and I’m back at it for free… Lucky you 🤣
This place is nice inside.. Low lighting a little too low to read the menu.. Clean environment, nice atmosphere.. And the cleanest bathroom I’ve seen in a long time.. It’s like a high class waffle house with the cooking area right in the front door..
The staff is amazing.. Everyone is nice. Was greeted very nicely by a waitress with braids at the hostess stand, who ended up being our waitress.. She knew that I was there for my friends before I ever said anything.. The waitress made sure our water was filled and that we had everything we needed.. She was good.. (fancy water pitcher) ( I wish I new the waitresses name. I will make sure I get that next time she deserves the credit) (young Ebony lady with braids) fantastic job..
I ordered the miso corn fritter, and ribeye steak with fries.. The menu does state ribeye steak not slices of steak… I also wondered why there were no ounces next to the description of the steak on the menu .. I now understand why… I got four slices of steak with a gigantic pile of french fry’s that I couldn’t find my steak under.. The steak was delicious but I had to eat a bunch of just basic almost burnt fries in between each slice of steak just to get my moneys worth.... I eat aged steak at any restaurant that has it… it’s the reason why I came to your restaurant… It’s the only food I will splurge and spoil myself with because it’s so good…. Unfortunately I thought I was getting a big plate because it was on the big plate side of the menu.. I guess putting four potatoes worth of fries Makes it a big plate now… For that it only gets two stars ⭐️ ⭐️ But give the person that cooked it five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars.. It was cooked perfectly.. Fries where alsmost burnt….
I was actually more satisfied off the miso corn fritter the steak.. The Miso corn fritter was amazing. Portions were correct being that it came from the small plate side of the menu.. Everything was delicious on that plate…
Now the bad. Not our waitress, but another waitress (white lady brunette really nice) came by our table, grabbed our water container from the top where you pour it out and said she’ll be back with more water.. This disgusted my friends. What my friends didn’t see is that waitress just walked out of the bathroom before grabbing the top of the water pitcher with her hands.. Hopefully, she washed her hands butt you still never grab a glass or pitcher by the top from where you pour or drink from.. I pulled our original waitress to the side and said another waitress just grabbed our water Pitcher I don’t want that one back. I want a fresh water pitcher with new water… She didn’t even think twice about questioning me. She said OK went and got another pitcher full of water and had it back to us in under a minute.. Five minutes later the first waitress that was trying to help out that actually wasn’t our waitress finally brought the water back…. After talking to the kitchen staff for about five minutes… She said ohhhh where did the other one come from???
It’s ironic the waitress that was not our waitress had the questionable etiquette.. I’m sure she means well or else she wouldn’t have gotten us more water.. You can tell a lot about an establishment on how water is provided, how soon and how often…
The waitress with the braids did one of the best jobs I’ve received in a long time.. She did a good enough job that I felt like I needed to start doing reviews again… Thank you for being so nice and awesome…
See you for that burger...
Read moreSooo, I had been hearing a lot about Jollity in downtown Dayton. Finally, I got a chance to go. The menu is quite different from the norm serving eclectic dishes with an Asian influence. The server let us know that the dishes are meant to be shared so usually a person will order two items, and that is what we did. Friend one ordered the Kimchi Pancake, Celery Root, Wasabi Remoulade, Potato Sticks, Shiso and the second dish was Karaage Chicken, Chili Glaze, Lemon Lime Pickles, Ginger Aioli. Friend one thought the chicken was really good and had a nice flavor. However, when it came to the pancake, although there was a nice combination of flavors, it was extremely salty and that overpowered everything else. After tasting it, we all felt the same way. Friend one could not finish the pancake. We let the server know that it was extremely salty and the manager came over and stated it was due to the kimchi. I did not think that was good reasoning on the manager’s part. We have had kimchi before but never felt that it was salty. They need to adjust their recipe for it. Friend two ordered the Lamb Burger, Spiced Soy Glaze, Peppered Greens, B&B Beets, Herb Yogurt and the second dish was Udon Noodles, Turnip Rayu, Wilted Greens, Braised Daikon, Three Soy Glaze. Friend two felt the lamb burger was the bomb and had a nice flavor w/ the beets and herb yogurt. However, the udon noodles were a letdown. There was a slight spiciness to it but something was missing. The flavors fell flat. I ordered the Brussel Sprouts, Fermented BBQ, JP Aioli, Bonito, Scallion and the second dish was Miso Corncake, Whipped Brie, Pickled Pineapple, Pistachio, Chili Oil. We all enjoyed the miso corncake. It combined well together; however I did not get much pineapple or chili oil flavor. As for the brussel sprouts….it had a nice roast on them. That’s where the good remarks end. At one point, friend one was waving away a gnat from the food. I looked over and thought, “did all the bugs land on my brussel sprouts,” because it was moving. Then I realized it was the bonito flakes that made it look like my brussel sprouts were alive. I could not enjoy any of the flavors of the brussel sprouts because again it was extremely salty. We let the server know and she said it’s because there was a lot of soy sauce. All I know is that they need to revamp their recipe. All the saltiness was coming from the fermented BBQ sauce. I got the vibe that although we had issues w/ some of the items, they are not going to look into it. The food is the food and either you like it or you don’t. My final thoughts…I don’t.
Overall, with all the ingredients listed for each item, the taste was one note. It was a different experience and I am always open to trying new foods however, this is one I don’t have to repeat. The prices were decent and if you are open to a new twist, then perhaps you may want to give it a try, but for me it’s a no go on a second chance. Now, I’ll spend the rest of the evening drinking a boatload of water to try and counteract all the...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Jollity in Dayton, and it was truly a delightful experience! This upscale restaurant offers a cozy setting that perfectly complements their eclectic menu. Each dish we tried was a masterpiece, showcasing creativity and flavor that left us in awe.
We started with the Grilled Octopus, which was beautifully seasoned with pastrami spice and accompanied by a refreshing vinegared cucumber and a drizzle of smoked olive oil. The combination of textures and flavors was simply heavenly. Next, the Miso Corncake was a standout, paired with citrus cardamom chutney, manchego, roasted pineapple, and salt plum butter. It was a unique fusion that danced on our palates.
The Korean Style Fried Chicken was another highlight, featuring crispy chicken with a tangy pickled daikon and a zesty chive aioli. Each bite was packed with flavor and the perfect amount of crunch. We also indulged in the Lamb Burger, which was topped with a smoky garlic glaze, bread & butter beets, and a zesty lemon mayo. It was rich and satisfying, making it one of the best burgers I've ever had.
To accompany our meal, we enjoyed some expertly crafted cocktails. The Old Fashioned was classic and smooth, while the Back Pocket cocktail, made with Kabocha squash bourbon, maple, ginger, and saline, was a delightful surprise. The Backseat Driver, served hot and composed of Toki Japanese whisky, sage honey, genmaicha, and green tea liqueur, was the perfect warm finish to our meal.
Overall, Jollity offers an unforgettable dining experience with its innovative dishes, cozy atmosphere, and exceptional drink selection. I cannot recommend it highly enough for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable...
