I am not exaggerating when I say that Jamrah is probably my favorite place to eat in DeKalb- maybe even in general. I never considered myself someone who would enjoy shwarma, but Jamrah made me like it because it's just that good- and consistently good, too. I've never had a bad order from Jamrah and I get their food semi-regularly for lunch. Tender, perfectly seasoned meat, delicious rice that isn't too dry or too oily, fresh and flavorful sauces, pita, and a huge host of absolutely delicious options. My biggest recommendation is actually their fresh-made lemonade, which is such a hit at my work that every time I tell my coworkers I'm ordering Jamrah they all have me get lemonade for them! (The guava is my favorite, but their peach with a bit of blood orange is also absolutely delish.) The restaurant is clean and vibrant, with a comfortable yet classy atmosphere, and plenty of seating and room to wait if you ordered takeout. I've saved it for last because I want to gush a bit, but the staff is phenomenal. The owners are fantastic people who clearly care deeply about good food, great service, and being a part of the community in so many ways. They have been so good to me and to everyone I've spoken to that has interacted with them- they are kind, professional people with a true talent for food and service. Jennifer in particular is an absolute angel- patient, friendly, and kind, and such a wonderful part of my day when I get to interact with her. It's easy to tell that they are deeply passionate about their business and their customers. I really cannot recommend Jamrah highly enough- whether you're visiting Dekalb looking for good local cuisine or you're a local who has never been, everyone deserves to enjoy this absolute gem of a restaurant. Do yourself a huge favor and order something from them for...
Read moreThis used to be one of our favorite places. My husband and I came here religiously. Everything was always perfect. I always get the kebob platter. It would come with the steak kebob, rice, jamrah salad, hummus, and a drink. it was always delicious. Tonight was my son‘s birthday and that’s what he requested. I went there and I said I need three steak kebab platters. The young girl at the register explained to me that the price of the kebab platters had gone up a few dollars. No big deal to me. I understand that sometimes prices need to be raise. I take my order home and it hits me that I didn’t get my drinks. Then I look in the containers and there’s no hummus and no jamrah salad. My husband called thinking they made an honest mistake. The lady who we believe to be the owner answered and was very rude and short with my husband. She said they no longer offer the kebob platters, it’s no longer an item on the menu. My husband explained that we’re kind of surprised by that because that was not said to me when I placed the order...If they no longer offer an item when the cashier have mentioned that? The lady again very short and rude eager to get off the phone basically told us oh well. Too bad. Now here’s the thing we’ve never had bad service there. We’ve always told everybody how great the customer service is there. Some of the workers even know us because we come in there regularly usually weekly. I cannot believe that is the way she chose to talk to us. If you no longer offer an item and somebody orders it you should probably let them know that it’s no longer an option. Super disappointed $52 later and I’m probably not going back. I should also mention that the pieces of steak were half of a bite-size...
Read moreOh the secret sauce. I don’t know what’s in it but it it’s delicious. And you should order some when you order any meal. The people at the Sycamore location are so wonderful. I think it is their flag ship store. What to order? I would not discourage you from ordering anything on the menu. I typically am not a lentil soup fan. But the lentil soup here is just amazing. The other thing I think that is remarkable is that falafel. Again a secret falafel recipe. Of course everything is made to order and you will not be disappointed nothing is “heat it up as you wait”. I have to be honest and say I am not a Lamb connoisseur but I would go with a bunch of people or at least order a couple of different things so you have a couple of experiences from this unique restaurant. Everything I have there is super fresh. The last time I went in I complemented the people on the white sauce and said how much I liked it and they were so sweet and generous they gave me a nice container to take home. No questions asked. I have to say the people who work at this restaurant are the kindest people I have experienced at any restaurant establishment. They go above and beyond to provide wonderful and thoughtful customer service. If you are in the vicinity of Sycamore or DeKalb you must go here. Made with love Middle Eastern Lebanese food that provides you with leftovers and is a great value! Too bad when I arrived thinking that I could still get food at 6:45pm when I was leaving Sycamore, my food craving remained thwarted. I noticed that they close at seven. That would be my only feedback. But hey, not a complaint-just plan...
