We are gathered here today in honor of an establishment most deserving. Today is July 10, 2024: two days after Hurricane Beryl. God bless those affected and my prayers go to those who lost their lives. May they forever rest in peace.
The Grand Buffet is an effortlessly wonderful marriage of Chinese and American cuisine. And needless to say, this marriage truly shined in the face of adversity. Not only on this day did it act as a hub of celebration for international cuisine and diversity, but also as a solace for those who were lost with a desire to be found.
You could say my family was torn apart. With a fallen tree that paralyzed my son’s arm and crushed half our home, we walked through the doors hungry and powerless. The senses of urge and desperation however subsided as we were greeted with nothing but smiles and open arms. Enamored and starstruck, we followed the angelic figure like ducklings to our table to find a view that was nothing short of GRAND. Some say it was heaven, I say it was a buffet. General Tso’s chicken. Lo mein. Shrimp egg rolls. Ice cream. You name it. It was paradise.
I couldn’t resist, I felt like a kid in a candy store. As I sat down, I almost forgot I’d shown up with my wife and son. I panicked when I noticed their disappearance, only to find them getting food without me! My mind was racing, my stomach was grumbling, and to my surprise I was already walking towards the buffet. My hands grabbed food faster than I could think. Lo mein? Yes please. Corn nuggets? Don’t mind if I do. Spicy beef?!? How do you say no to that! I couldn’t help but grab a second plate. It was all you can eat after all. For only $12.69!
“Can you believe it? They have corn nuggets!” I exclaimed with a full plate .
“And you didn’t even get the general tso’s chicken!” my son Nick teased, as he pointed in the direction of the bird.
We sat down as a family. A healthy and put together family. We laughed, giggled, and chit chatted as time effortlessly flew by. I saw my wife Molly and I growing old together, and I saw Nick going to college. For the first time in my life, I felt full, filled, and fulfilled.
“You may want to grab that fork before I take your plate, sir.” the angelic figure asserted towards my son. Startled and snapped back to reality, Nick jolted for his fork, knocking over his water in the process.
Molly shrieked. “Son! Your arm!”
The three of us sat in disbelief as his supposedly paralyzed hand sturdily punched through his glass and heroically held his fork.
“My hand is all better!” Nick exclaimed.
It was a miracle. I haven’t seen my wife cry tears of joy like today since her junior prom with Troy Hawkington.
We celebrated the beauty of international cuisine and my son’s god-given gift with 2 bowls of ice cream, a plate of pastries, and a parting gift from the waitress. A fortune. What did it say? That’s for me and me only.
Many are quick to say that life is here to beat you down. It will steal from you, trick you, and tell you lies. Some will say that everyone is out to get you. But I’m here to tell you the reality. Life is full of miracles, and you just have to wait your turn. Yes you will get beat down, and yes you will feel bad. I felt bed for 39 years. But it’s days like this and places like Grand Buffet that makes this world worth it. It’s a miracle.
Thank you Grand Buffet, you touched my wife’s heart, fixed my son’s arm, and filled my stomach with lo mein. I will be forever in debt to you.

Read moreI have been coming here for several years. The experience has been good up until this visit. We like to sit in the section with the waterfall. The hostess said there were no tables available. There were three tables with soiled dishes on them and the people had already left. She asked us to wait while the table in the section behind the partition was cleared off. I asked her why one of the tables by the waterfall couldn't be cleared off for us. She argued with me. Finally, the waiter serving in that section cleared a table and told her it was available. I was standing waiting to get the Lau Mein when a child about seven years old picked up a noodle off the buffet and ate off the serving tong and placed the tong back on top of the entire container of Lau Mein. It never occurred to me anyone would use the tongs as their personal silverware. I won't be back after witnessing this unaccompanied child. While I was getting dessert, the same child had gloves on using his hand instead of the serving silverware to pick up jello. Again no parent in sight. This restaurant needs to post a policy stating young children have to be accompanied by an adult. I told the person taking payment what I witnessed at the buffet and he only said the parent needs to be with the child. He stated no other remedy. There is no sign informing adults to accompany minors at the buffet. I...
Read moreFood is good duing lunch and dinner rush. People are usually really friendly, till today. The hostess needs some help. She was very rude, disrespectful, not just to me and my husband, but to other customers. First, i asked for a table and she informed me that, "those's tables are reserved!" Two table that set four people? In a buffet? Reserved!?! Ok, so me and my husbund relegated to the other table crowded with others. Then, she set a group of one and another group of foir at the "special reserved tables". So i asked the lady how did you get the table reserved? She gave me a puzzled look, " reserved? No, we just came in like you...". On top of this i overheard the hostess take a drink order from the table behind me. The customer ordered a Diet Coke. The hostess reaction was in disgust, "Really, you want a Diet Coke? You come to a buffet and order diet?" I almost spit-out my food. This was not only judgemental but unprofessional. I know why the "now hiring" sign was on the window outside. Sorry Grand Buffet but i may take my Chinese hunger pains down the road the next I come in and she the...
