I have given this place multiple chances... I used to really like their food but something has changed. There is no flavor on their food anymore and they are making very big mistakes and not owning up to what they are doing to correct the situation. I actually tried ordering different menu items giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they had a new cook. I was wrong. The fajitas have no seasoning at all. There is no way they are world famous because you have to season your food. I mean no seasoning at all. The same with the milanese. They have steak and chicken milanese. The first time I ordered the steak and it was burnt as you can see in the picture. I called them and they don't even offer my money back or anything just order the chicken next time because that don't happen with the chicken. I tried ordering the chicken twice after and was told they don't have bread crumbs. Then when I finally ordered it it came not burnt but absolutely no seasoning at all. I literally had to season the whole thing myself to eat it. Is not hard to use salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder, etc... they just choose not to because they don't care. I also had my guacamole it came with brown that night and it made me so sick even though I didn't eat it, it was still all over the food because they don't separate it in to go order. Then I tried again about a month later and ordered a chimichanga and enchilada. It was so dry inside like it must of been made a while ago uncooked, I mean like days, and then cooked. So that was thrown away. The last time I ordered was this last time and I got a combination chicken quesadilla and Chicken Flauntas for $12. The chicken quesadilla was so small it was the tortilla from a soft taco and there was barely any chicken in it. The flauntas once again completely dried inside. That's why I didn't want chicken for the flauntas but they don't give you a choice. Either cheese or chicken quesadilla for the same price and only chicken flaunta. I also ordered 2 steak soft tacos. It was not steak it was fat and completely undercooked and inedible. I have cancer so this was not acceptable at all. I was so upset that the next day, after I finally got someone to answer the phone finally, I asked for a manager and at first was told they were not there but then they came on the phone. I explained everything that happened and how the food used to be really good and we keep coming back because my wife loves their compadres burrito, even though she doesn't eat meat, (which they don't have a vegetarian burrito unbelievably so she has to pay for the meat she doesn't get for $14). The manager did not seem to care. He said sorry were are losing you as a customer since you don't like any of our food... Really??? Not that you want to thank me for trying multiple times, or address any of the serious problems I just explained like brown guacamole, undercooked steak and all the fat in my tacos??? Nothing... I explained how disappointed I was that they don't care about what their customers are experiencing, Or that he will look into the situation and try to see where it can improve, just nothing and no care. The conversation went no where. It was a waste of time so I'm done with Los Dos Compadres... Deland is a small town with a large amount of Mexican restaurants to compete against so that kind of attitude can destroy you really fast... I also noticed that alot of the 5 star reviews on here don't seem to be real. Very sad... they did used to have really good food... it only takes a couple people to destroy a restaurant. Oh yes and the big bag of chips they give you and a 1 ounce cup of salsa is a joke and if you ask for extra salsa they...
Read moreI want to start this review with the positives. The restaurant is clean and the service we received was good. It seems that some of the servers have regulars who are excited to see their favorite person working. The restaurant appears smaller on the outside than it actually is, but a party of 20 might find the space to be a little tight.
My husband ordered the chicken fajitas, my toddler had the quesadilla with black beans (comes with refried, but they were happy to substitute) and I had the carnitas. All of our food was cooked well but was absolutely unseasoned. The chicken fajitas did not even have salt and pepper! I did have a few pieces of carnitas that were slightly on the drier side, but again, there was zero seasoning of any kind. The salsa was basically tomato water with some onions and chopped tomato. Missing the bay leaf that usually appears in what is effectively supposed to be a black bean soup.
There were so many mixed reviews on Google. It seems as though people are either astounded by the real authentic Mexican flavors or they complain about the lack of seasoning. I think we figured out what is going on after we heard a gentleman say he wanted absolutely no pico de gaillo, because he didn't want anything "spicy", and another woman asked for the "green stuff" (guacamole). I truly believe that the chefs here are being restrained by locals who are averse to any kind of traditional Mexican seasoning. For that I can't blame the owners since you really need to cater to the market you're in. It's a real shame though because the food was cooked well and the service is good, which is the only reason I'm giving them 4 stars...
Read moreBad management. I will never be back.
I came there for lunch and ordered the chicken and steak mixed fajitas. When it came out it had shrimp on top of the chicken and steak. I don’t eat seafood, so I scraped the shrimp onto a friends plate since I didn’t order shrimp, and I wasn’t going to send it back when I can just pick them out. I ate my meal, but when I got my check, I was charged $17 for the fajitas instead of $12 like the menu said. The waitress explained that she rang in dinner fajitas on accident which comes with shrimp, and she would ask the manager to correct it. The manager told our waitress that since we ate them, he would not correct it. I guess what I should have done is sent it back and asked them to remake my fajitas without shrimp, instead of being polite, keeping it, picking them off. The waitress (who’s service was great) was so sweet, she actually offered to pay me the $5 out of her pocket since it was her mistake. I explained that I would not accept that, and I would pay it myself, but that the way that this was handled was bad management, and bad customer service, and that I would never be back. I paid my bill, left her a tip, and I will never be back. I hope the $1.50 that it would have cost the restaurant was worth losing...
