We haven’t been to DeLand Fish house in over a year-the last few times we went it was AMAZING! This time was TERRIBLE! And I’m not trying to be mean or whiny or anything-just being honest about our food experience! We started with peel and eat shrimp and they were bland and very hard to peel and were not cleaned properly-i had to use paper towel to clean the brown mushy stuff off of them-my husband only ate them because he was really hungry lol and he drowned them in butter or cocktail sauce ! . My husband got the ribeye (he absolutely loved it last time-he said it was one of the best steaks) but this time, not so much. it was barely warm, like room temp warm and the fries had no salt and were barely warm. I got the fish and shellfish combo with grouper and fried oysters. The grouper pieces were really good but the oysters were disgusting! I love fried oysters but these were humongous and they were mushy the breading was fried properly but the actual oyster was so mushy it would just disintegrate in your hand-it was like goo and they smelled funny. The waitress had them make more but they were the same way. My fries were like my husbands-no salt and barely warm. My grits were very salty and not fully cooked. We got our $75 check and could not believe that we had to pay $75 for that mess! The only things good were our sweet teas , the grouper pieces and my husbands side salad and our waitress!!! We will not be back! I’m so disgusted that we paid $75 for such awful food! ! We also noticed that the place was very dead(few customers ) and in the past it was always packed full! Not sure what has happened to DFH but they are not what...
Read moreRecommended, will definitely eat here again. I took my father here on Thursday Feb 2, the day we moved him into Grand Villa of Deland, right next door. We walked in the door at about 5pm and left at about 5:45pm.
Our experience was great! Our server had just about the perfect timing throughout dinner. We didn't wait too long for anything -- we spent the right amount of time ordering; delivery of food to our table was speedy but not rushed; when I was taking the last sips of my water, our server was there at my elbow with a refill; when we were ready for the check, she was right there and we paid speedily. A lot of times at restaurants, you spend a fair amount of dead time just waiting for things -- waiting to be seated, waiting to order, waiting for the check -- but not this time. To get in and out in 45 minutes without feeling rushed was exactly what I wanted.
The food itself was excellent. The hush puppies were flawless. Everything was cooked to satisfaction, nothing was too hot, nothing was cold. The portions were just right, and prices were pretty reasonable considering the state of things these days. I had coconut shrimp, french fries, & onion rings; my dad had the same, except clam strips instead of shrimp.
Lastly, I was pleased that the manager or owner (not sure which) took a moment to stop by each table to see how things were. That's always a good sign at any restaurant.
If I have any requests, it's to consider working with Grand Villa to maybe create a sidewalk or something between your two lots to make it a bit easier...
Read moreMy wife and I went there after church. It wasn't packed but there were some people there. We've been looking for a good restaurant that knows how to cook fish. Fishing all my life for fun we knew what fish should taste like. Well, this wasn't the place to go for a fish dinner. My wife had the grouper, dinner size, blackened. Her fish was floating in what seemed to be grease. Her fish was not cooked all the way, so needless to say, she didn't eat but a part that seemed to be cooked. The cole slaw was warm & the tarter sauce was sitting out on the table for who knows how long. So she reordered a cold cole slaw which the waitress brought out. The "filet" were different than the filets I'm used to catching. They were small pieces so I don't really know if it was grouper. My mahi & shrimp sandwich could not be eaten as a sancwich. They did give me plenty of fish, don't know for sure if it was Mahi because it didn't taste good either. They put the 3 pieces of fish plus cole slaw, plus shrimp in the bun, hoagy so I couldn't close it to eat as a sandwich, which is ok but not want I wanted. So I ate it separately. Again the Mahi didn't taste good at all. The good part was that the waitress was good. Also they don't tell you that they charge the extra fee if you pay by credit card, other restaurants do. So that was our 3rd time of trying them. Only 1 out of 3 was good tasting food. Won't be back. So we continue to look for a restaurant that knows how to cook fish at a decent price. The...
