Hamburger Inn Diner — Restaurant in Delaware

Had a late lunch here on Friday! Started with appetizers of Onion Rings and The Gravy Smothered Fries. Both were served Fast, Hot and were Delicious! Everyone ordered a burger and made it a Platter. 2-3/4lb burgers, a 1/2lb burger and a 1/4lb burger were then served. 2 with Seasoned Waffle Fries and 2 with Fresh Cut Fries. We had the Hangover Burger, Mushroom and Swiss, Greek Burger and The Western Burger. No one had any complaints! In fact we talked through our whole meal about the freshness of the ingredients and everyone was happy that they toast the inside of the buns! The patties were hot, juicy and cooked to Perfection. The ranch must be homemade, because I have never tasted a better ranch dressing. Same with the Tzaiki sauce on the Greek Burger. We were all surprised by the amount of fries that were served with the burgers. I don't believe anyone was able to finish their basket. We also had 2 Kids meals that were also larger than expected. The Sweet Tea was Amazing, as was the server, Chelsea,, who kept our glasses full. We sat on the sidewalk outside the restaurant and never felt like an after thought. With another well known restaurant across the street, we all decided, given the choice we would pick the Hamburger Inn Diner again and again!! Finally, hag Breakfast today 12/17/2023. Friendly service and fairly busy for a weekday morning. Most breakfast items right around $10 or less. Only (slight) disappointment was that my omelette description included chorizo and, honestly, it was either missing or SO slim that I didn’t get any taste of that at all. Overall a nice downtown spot. July 6

EDIT July 24, I stopped back to this restaurant with my wife after my last visit. While the restaurant had quickly offered me a free meal after my review (thank you), I decided to try something different today and, honestly, the review was not made in any effort to receive a free meal.

To be expected, Sunday morning around 10, the diner was busy so we sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. Food was good and the cinnamon roll with maple glaze did not disappoint. My wife’s breakfast, “Hometown Favorite” consisted of two eggs, home fries, choice of meat and toast… and she shared in the cinnamon roll. While our server was doing her best, it did seem as if she was pretty busy with orders from many customers and we heard her apologizing to several tables for various things (we had only forks… not spoon or knife as they were apparently not available, which I took to mean not washed/prepared?). While we were not ignored, we had a single visit during our almost 45-50 min meal (aside from taking/delivering our order and then bringing the bill). I may visit again on my next travel to Delaware, but it’s not on my list of places to...

We were driving back home from a weeks vacation and my husband wanted to try Son of Thurman. It was about a 20 minute wait which was fine until they told us we had to wait outside in the freezing cold with snow mixture and our 1 year old daughter. It was because of covid and I under stand that to some extent, however no one was wearing masks in that entire restaurant and there was a family in there waiting to be seated. So we went outside and I looked across the street and saw this really cute burger place which was the Hamburger inn diner. I called over to see if they had any open seating not realizing it’s all counter seating and asked The young man if they made people wait outside . His response was oh goodness no. I said okay we’re across the street we are on our way over. As soon as we walked inside the young man new who we were and got us set up so quickly. Had this very cool kid chair that attached to the counter. He was so incredibly kind and gave us the BEST Service! The staff was so friendly and I loved how you could watch them make your food right there in front of you. Our food was delicious and our little One loved her cheeseburger. The atmosphere was great. ,I’m glad the other place told us we had to wait outside because if they hadn’t, we wouldn’t have gotten to experience this little gem of a restaurant. If Your driving through or live in this area and haven’t been, I highly recommend this place. We will be back...
