Tony's is a local Italian restaurant in Newark along Chestnut Hill Road (DE 4) in a shopping plaza anchored by the local Shoprite. The dining area is basic, mostly what you'd expect from a local restaurant. However, the decor could use a little bit of an update and then it'd be just right. The menu features what you'd expect from an Italian restaurant in the orbit of Philadelphia - pizzas, pastas, strombolis, etc. and have a great variety of different pizzas. For my meal, I went with a vegetarian pizza (spinach, tomato and ricotta cheese) and an order of garlic bread. The pizza itself was pretty tasty and the ricotta made a good contrast to the mozzarella on the pie itself and the vegetables were generally nice and fresh. The crust was also pretty decent as it could hold the slice and had just enough crisp for a good thin-crust pizza. The miss for me was the garlic bread. I don't know if it was the preparation for my particular order, but my bread had some minced garlic topping the butter on the bread rather than well-dispersed in the butter. I love garlic but trying to eat those pieces of minced garlic wasn't for me as it was bitter. I would like to see them better incorporate the garlic into the bread as that might help the read out. The garlic aside, the bread was nicely baked and had the butter and garlic been better spread I would have really enjoyed it. The service was decent as well. I didn't have to wait too long for a refill and the server made sure I was take care of at my table. Overall, it's a nice neighborhood Italian restaurant for those local to Newark and you'll at least get an enjoyable meal if...
Read moreThis place participates in the Too Good To Go program. I never patronized this place before and never will again. However, due to location and availability of participating restaurants, I selected this place. When I arrived to pick up my ‘surprise bag’, the staff began to talk in their language (manager included) and gave me these unusual looks and smirks. In the end, they ended up throwing 4 slices of pizza in a box. The surprise is ‘they judge you when you arrive and give you want they want to give you’ knowing there was more variety to give and more leftovers (I saw other items on the counter available). My surprise bag was NOT ready as stated it would be either. They threw pizza in a bag just to satisfy the deal. My message to Tony’s Bistro, if you are not going to participate in the Too Good To Go program honestly, fairly, and with pure intentions DO NOT PARTICIPATE - you are not obligated to do so. And what you and your immature staff displayed does not show a real concern or genuine attitude about the food waste (recoup) program. This is a program YOU signed up for…Now play fair! After all, I did pay a small fee - it wasn’t totally free. This was my first order for a surprise bag - how disappointing this experience was! Tony Bisto”s stay true to the mission of the Too Good To Go program….or please unenroll your restaurant. You are...
Read moreThis by far the worst Italian food I've ever eaten. My boyfriend ordered chicken Piccata and the chicken was completely white and rubbery looked boiled to death the sauce was watery and runny when he sent it back the waitress was rude because she didn't understand why he wasn't happy with it mind you he is Italian and gets this dish all the time. I ordered the Aglio E Olio spaghetti which I also make myself and have never seen it swimming in oil and water the garlic which was huge chunks where burned and black the sauce was absolutely disgusting and when we sent it back the waitress just had a rude attitude about when I said it just wasn't good. None of the employees or cooks where American or Italian if you don't know the food pls don't own these restaurants. The place was dirty and the kids spaghetti we ordered for our 5 trip old the sauce was watery and tasteless like they just dump a can of tomato sauce on spaghetti (chef Boyardee tasting). Will never come...
