This is a very new restaurant. It's very small BUT their food is DELICIOUS. I had Vinnie's Italian Special, like a sub but better. Everything was so fresh. The roll was just perfect for a sub a.k.a. hero sandwich. The meats are fresh since they have a deli area also. My husband got Uncle Brucie's pastrami sandwich, served with cole slaw, deli mustard on seeded rye. He LOVED it. I drank Manhatten coffee soda, which I'd never had before but the girl who was taking our order said she grew up drinking that soda, so it must be popular and been popular in NYC. My husband had a Perroni beer, an Italian beer which he said he'd had before and liked. Of course, it's a new place BUT they have a complete wall of hydroponic Basil growing. What a WOW factor!! Because they're so new and just dipping their toe in the water, they're only open Wednesday thru Sunday from (I think) 12-5pm. They also have a pizza oven from Italy. My husband says next time we'll have to try the pizza.
UPDATE: O.K. we went back to Two Meatballs yesterday, and as some people have said, it's a work in progress. This time I ordered a shrimp salad, which I thought was going to be shrimp salad on a plate with greens underneath. It actually was a sandwich, which I cannot understand. It seems more time consuming to put shrimp salad on a roll with a few pieces of lettuce than it would be to put the shrimp salad on a plate with a few greens underneath. My husband got the meatball sandwich, which he said I make just as good, if not better than what he ate at Two Meatballs. I know they're trying to find their way in this area and the restaurant business isn't the easiest to get into at first, but if you have a good product and know how to sell it you can do very well. Everything is very urban looking, which I know is the the way everything should look like now BUT if you're trying to sell Italian foods then make it look and smell like an Italian restaurant. Like if you go into a Oriental restaurant you SHOULD smell garlic and if you don't you should leave without ordering. Same for this place. You should walk in and smell garlic and onions cooking, a rich pasta sauce, have Italian meats and cheeses hanging and giving a fragrance to the air. Have some of their breads in small barrels so people can buy them and they can be used for sandwiches that are being made. They have a liquor license but I've only seen bottled beer, no wines of any kind. They have dry pasta for sale, but they cook none which seems to be defeating the purpose of having the pasta for sale and taking up space in the restaurant, which is certainly at a premium. The basil wall is a show stopper BUT must be maintained constantly every single day. I know, I have basil growing in a pot outside on my deck . The place is VERY tiny and I'm not sure how they could make improvements to it with the money they've already invested in it to get it up and running, but I do know their prices will have to come down to where local people can feel comfortable going to dinner there once the "summer...
Read moreBy blood I'm not Italian, but I grew up with a lot of italian in my family through marriage, friendship, kitchens, travel and many very life shaping work experiences in authentic Italian restaurants. While visiting family here in Lewes from far away in California, I just so happened upon this place. I wasn't seeking it out, I was just hungry and not being totally familiar with my options pulled into a shopping type center that appeared to have a few food options. "Two Meatballs" happened to be one of them. I wasn't exactly craving a good Italian meal, until I saw it was an option in my random pull-off from Hwy 24. But considering that Italian is definitely what I would choose for my last meal, and you never know when that may be (I am driving a rental car after all) I couldn't resist. I judge a breakfast spot by their eggs benedict, I judge an Italian restaurant by their spaghetti and meatballs! So without any further deliberation, my dinner to go would soon be resolved. I got to the counter about 20 minutes prior to them closing. After placing my order, I noticed a pair of large glass jars each filled with hollow cannoli shells. One with larger ones, one with slightly smaller ones. I inquired with lovely woman who took my order and she let me know that she prepares them fresh for each order. I couldn't resist. I added a large one to my take-out dinner. At this point I'll say, that I'm not sure if I've ever written a review. I have eaten out all over the world, including in Italy. Genoa, Camogli, Portofino, Milan, Florence and Venice to be exact. As such my tastebuds are quite discerning and usually not particularly impressed with the fare one might find in a random commercial strip off of Hwy 24 in Lewes, DE. Those travels and having grown up eating homemade italian food prepared for many hours by loving extended family grandparents, I trust that I know when its exceptional. My meal from "Two Meatballs" tonight was just that. I'm not a food writer so I won't try and describe the flavors. But I will say that the sauce, the pasta and oh my god the meatballs!!! So freaking good!! And the Cannolis... absolutely perfect! What a gem of a place you all have here. Thank you "Two Meatballs"!!! I only wish I could bring you back to California with me. Don't ever change, you are so beautiful just...
Read moreI'd love to try this place but they've been closed, or were closing, on each of the 5 occasions we attempted to go there. From the reviews I've read, the food is very good, but, especially for a place that's just opening, the owners do not appear to want to spend too much time in building their business. Regardless of how good the food may be, I'm somewhat doubtful that this place will be successful if they intend to continue to operate it on a part time basis.
Well, we finally found Two Meatballs open and popped in to take a look and sample their wares. They had a very limited menu, so I ordered a Italian hero sandwich and my wife and son each ordered a sausage and pepper sandwich for dine in. This place is still a work in progress and rating them at this point would probably be unfair We'll give them some time to get their act together before we give it another try. Hopefully, they'll consider doing away with some of the shelves they have scattered about in order to make room for a few more tables for those who would like to dine in, especially if they intend to add pasta and other dinner items to their menu. They also may want to compare some of their prices with their competitors in the area.To be honest, I found their prices to be a bit on the high side for what we got.
UPDATE: Despite the issues above, I had found the food to be decent on my earlier visit to this shop, albeit a bit on the pricey side for the portion size, so I decided to give them another try. Walked in today and ordered 2 Italian and 1 meatball subs (heros). Guess what, the young lady behind the counter informed me that they were unable to make any sandwiches because they had no bread (rolls). WHAT???? NO BREAD IN A SANDWICH SHOP???? RU KIDDING ME???? I read quite a few positive reviews about their food but their business acumen is likely to keep them from reaching their full potential. The owner/owners may want to consider bringing someone in who knows a little more about running this kind of business if they truly hope to become and remain successful in their endeavor. Hopefully they will get their act together because a good (authentic) Italian sandwich shop in this area would be great to have. If these guys can't do it, perhaps Touch Of Italy will consider opening a store...
