My experience was so awful I’m going to make sure my complaint goes to the headquarters. It happened on June 2nd, 2017 at 10 A.M. in Delray Beach. Fortunately for them, the manager and waiter’s service was good. I’ve been going to this place since year 2000 and their decline is evident. I’m also an experienced cook. Some of their meals and the quality of the food have deteriorated noticeably. In my recent experience although the place was almost empty, no one approached me to ask if I wanted or needed anything! I was ready to make the order since I walked in. They served other tables and walked by my table several times offering and serving water and coffee to other customers. I waited for more than 15 minutes. I got tired of waiting and got up to ask to be served. I thought the staff was useless and rude. The only reason I stayed was because I couldn’t communicate with my husband who was still in the car in a work related (online) meeting. They have a guy on his twenties as a kind of “Maitre D' ” who does not fit the part at all. He followed me as he saw me walking away from my table. He asked what I needed. At that time I was already expressing my frustration for not being approached by anyone and complained about the staff’s detachment. He rolled his eyes at his coworkers while I was talking to him. I was also making a remark about the quality of the food since my previous visit was a little bit disappointing. He kept denying the food quality had changed. I had to call the manager to request attention to my meals and to explain I was displeased with the staff service and attitude. After my husband sat down the water/coffee girl approached the table offering. I asked her if this was her area to served, because if she had come over earlier she could have given the message I was ready to order. She excused herself that she’s been there for 3 days! As if that had made me invisible to her (???) If a long time customer is making a remark (first remark in 17 years) it must be true! They should be taking it with consideration or lower the prices. At least that way we would know what to expect. This place is not keeping up with its reputation. It gets packed up on the weekends because people don’t have other choices around. This place has turned into Denny’s but with a higher price tag. The food went from the best in town to eatable and the service is...
Read moreWish I could give 0 stars but had to at least give 1 to post.... Restaurant Scammer!!!! Good morning all. I’ve never posted before (only commented), but after this experience I couldn’t help but post this message warning everyone of a waitress experience a group of friends and I had on Tuesday.
The waitress’ name was Chris, she was from Philadelphia and personable, and had “blue” hair. Now for my story and bad experience.
I went with six others to the Original Pancake House in Delray on Federal Hwy. to celebrate a birthday brunch. When the check came we wanted to split it 5 ways on each of our cards. The waitress said she could only put it all on one card so we accepted that and I charged it on my card and everyone else paid me. I saw that an 18% gratuity was added to the bill which was also ok because we were a party of 7 and most places do that, as a rule, when there are more than six people in attendance. We wanted to leave at least 20% for a tip because servers do usually work hard and are pleasant considering the public they have to deal with. But what happened next was unforgivable.
I gave the waitress my credit card and as I gave it to her she said “oh you’re paying by credit card?” I said yes and asked if that was a problem. Her response was “well yes only because the owner then gives us half of the charged tip and keeps the rest for the business. As a server we don’t get the full amount of the tip when it’s in the credit card.” My friends and I were quite surprised by this and that a restaurant owner would do that, so we wound up leaving the tip difference in cash, and then some, on the table for her. We were appalled that a restaurant owner would do that. We later found out that the restaurants can’t do that and that we were scammed.
As it just so happened, I went back to the same restaurant the next day (deliberately, of course) with my husband and when it came time to pay the bill, I asked the waitress if I put the tip on the credit card, was the owner going to take half of...
Read morePersonally I love the the food and staff here. On every other occasion that I have been there, the staff was incredibly nice, and were extremely sweet. But this last trip had me second guessing my prior assumptions. We arrived at 1pm, an hour before closing. It wasn't packed, but it wasn't empty. Maybe 13 tables with customers. I wrote my name on the wait list, since there were two people there waiting too. The manager knows us, and knows we're regulars. I saw him in the back filling out mobile/take-out orders and saw he has his hands full. We sat down for 20-30 minutes waiting, understandable they were pretty busy with dozens of take-out orders and two servers. When the manger came to give the two other people their take-out orders, he saw us and rolls his eyes. Maybe he thought we came in half hour before closing and got annoyed. He didn't talk to us and walked away. When someone else came in, he sent a server to seat both parties. Every time the manger passed us, I felt uncomfortable and it felt like he was giving is nasty looks. Same with our server. Like I said, I thought it was because he believed be came 30 minuted before closing. It's not like the place was empty, there were still 8-10 other tables with people still eating. And four other parties that came in 5 minutes before closing; the manager sat them personally, he was nice to them, and asked 2 times if everything was fine. I honestly don't know what we did to make him dislike us or if he was having a bad day, but I was upset the whole time we were there. And usually the food is great, but this time it was mediocre, if not terrible. My eggs and coffee were cold, while my bacon was burnt and cold. Maybe today was an off day for them, but i was...
