A really cool atmosphere and vibe with a decent selection of drink options - beer, wine, cocktails, non-alcoholic. There are usually 2 or 3 food options. The stand-by is the take-out artisan pizza, which you order by calling in, waiting, and then going to find the pick up locale within the store. The other option(s) are food trucks parked just outside the greenhouse. I believe there's usually just 1 truck, but on my most recent visit there were 2. They also have bands occasionally which is nice.
Now for the downside - their convoluted drink policy. Each person must stand in line themselves to get their own drink. You cannot buy drinks for your companions. When you get to the front of the line, they scan your driver's license and sell you the beverage. You can't buy more than 1 drink at a time even though you can buy up to 3 drinks with each visit. This means that if you have 2 people in your party and the place is somewhat crowded, you have to go up one-at-a-time so you can save your seat. It can take 15-20 minutes or so to get through the line, so needless to say, you're going to have little time to actually hang out at the table with your friend(s). I understand the liability issue but literally every other place that serves alcohol has found...
Read moreThis "grocery" store is a place you don't want to miss. If you can't find it here, it may not exist. I bought a quarter pound of morel mushrooms for $26 for the filet mignon we are grilling tonight. To my disappointment, they were out of cavier today, though.
There are also a multitude of amazing plants in numerous green houses waiting to be planted in your backyard. I also bought 2 Japanese skypencils and a gardenia tree for our backyard.
Gardners, you will also find an abundant assortment of gardening tools and garden sculptures for your flower beds.
When we were done shopping, we enjoyed a glass of wine and a beer while sitting at a picnic table to enjoy the fountain in the pond. There is also a small menu you can pick a specialty pizza from if you are hungry.
I love going here. But beware, Saturdays and Sundays are busy, and isles are difficult to manuver with your cart as shoppers wonder the isles with a beverage in their hands.
But . . . talk about a fun...
Read moreHorrocks Farm Market is a gem in the Lansing area! This family-owned and operated business offers a unique and fun experience you won't find anywhere else nearby.
Their fresh produce is top-notch, and I love grabbing a local beer to sip while I browse. The candy selection is dangerous (in a good way!), and their beer selection is impressive. The beer garden is a great place to relax, especially when they have live music in the greenhouse. Saturdays are definitely the time to go if you want to experience the full Horrocks vibe. It's packed with people, and let's just say there's a certain... energy in the air.🍍🔑♠️🦄 😉 If you're into that kind of thing, you'll fit right in. If not, maybe stick to weekdays.
My only minor critique is that the meat section could have a bit more variety. But overall, Horrocks is a fantastic place to shop, hang out, and enjoy the local scene.
Pro Tip: Go on a Saturday afternoon, grab a beer, and enjoy the people-watching. You won't be...
