I stumbled across the red cottage restaurant while staying a few nights in Dennis, and wow am I glad I did. My wife and I are breakfast enthusiasts, so my reviews for breakfast is usually biased, but Red Cottage Restaurant definitely deserves five stars all the way around. When we arrived at the parking lot, it was absolutely packed . The population density on this one property was metropolitan city level. We had to wait outside for 20 minutes to get served, however, the weather was excellent and they offered seating for us right outside the restaurant so my wife and I didn’t mind. When we were seated, we were immediately greeted by our server (Charlie), who was warm, welcoming, and excited to serve us. The atmosphere in here was cozy and had a very HomeTown feel. There were decorations hung everywhere, photographs, and knick knacks on all the shelves. The menu options at this restaurant were so diverse, and they had something for everyone. They also had a lot of award-winning fan favorites, highlighted on the menu with a red thumbs up. They had crepes, French toast, omelletes, pancakes, bowls, benedicts, and lots of other choices. I got the Caramelized Onion Omelette with the red cottage home fries and pop-over, and my wife got the garden bowl, also with the pop-over. Our food came out fast and hot. The presentation was excellent and the whole plate was filled. The omellete was absolutely stunning. The caramelized onions and sausages that came in the omelette were so flavorful. The has browns were hands down the best hash browns I’ve ever even, by a landslide. I typically usually view hashbrowns as a filler side for dishes that are really only there to fill you up, but here, I could argue that it was the highlight food on the plate. The pop-overs, also, cooked fresh every morning right there. They did not disappoint either. By the time my wife and I were finished with our food, we were stuffed. We wanted to order the crepes so bad, but our stomachs would have punished us. This place is also cash only so BRING CASH. We had to use the ATMs to withdraw cash which was fine but would have been much better to have the cash ready at the table. I can’t complain about cash only restaurants, I think they add value to the experience. Feels more raw and traditional, and typically cash only restaurants have better food? At least I’ve noticed that. Anyway, if you’re in the Dennis area, Red Cottage restaurant is an obvious place you should add to your list of places to check out. Thank you to the staff of Red Cottage in for such an incredible...
Read moreI can find no faults. Be prepared to wait for a table. Don’t come here with impatience. 8AM on a Thursday and the lot was packed with vehicles, and a crowd standing outside. I had to park on the shoulder of the road about 200 yards away.
Being alone, I snagged the odd counter seat upon arriving. The menu is weighty. There’s a lot to choose from. Mostly the same items in various combinations. Sitting in view of the grill, ruled out Hash. It really has to impress me, and I could see that it would not. That’s just me. I’ve tried a lot of hash, all over the country. I wanted something I could get no where else, and ended up on the Country omelet. I know, I know. How is a meat and veggie omelet special? The grill cooks sold it for me. Such skill and attention to detail. It was good, not moan out loud extraordinary. The crispy potatoes were cooked right the first time.
I should have gotten the Cottage potatoes instead. I should have upgraded my bread choice to Apple Pie French Toast. I should have tried some sausage gravy on my omelet. I thought of all these things while reading Yelp reviews and completely forgot to execute a single one. Maybe I would have moaned out loud.
Super friendly, patient, and helpful staff. A mature staff that you don’t see checking their phones.
Very clean place, and of course, cash only.
** Hidden in the meat sides is the offering of Cajun seasoning. The hot sauces are standard and tired. Put that seasoning in some shakers or peppermill grinders to add some “Oomph” to the meals. If I saw a server grinding a mill at another table on a patrons plate, I know I...
