SCARS DON’T GO, AND NEITHER WILL THE PERMANENT SCAR THIS RESTAURANT LEFT ON MY PALETTE AND SOUL!!!! As I walked through the entrance of the cafe, I immediately caught a whiff fresh roasted scallops - a familiar smell that reminded me of my early years in the Louisiana bayou. The peaceful dim lighting and fine wooden structure of the Cafe was haunting, yet comforting in a way that cannot be described in words, but only experience. In other words, the Scargo cafe is supernatural. I will briefly describe some of the paranormal activity that took place during my dining experience. First, as I was sipping on one of the finest Iced teas in the Cape, I looked up and saw an old lady hysterically smiling. She was looking directly at me, her presence was tense and sinister, so I briefly looked away. A second later, I swiveled my head back in her direction to see if she was still staring at me. Instead, something far more frightening occurred, she was completely out of sight and all that was left was the vintage painting hanging on the wall that she covered. I was hoping this was a mere fluke in the matrix, but the following events quickly assured me this was no coincidence. The next otherworldly event that took place on this evening was what I describe as the moving “restroom.” After splurging through three consecutive teas in a matter of minutes, my bladder filled to the brim; so I decided it was time to go to the restroom. I asked my mate for directions who had just went, they said, “down the hall to the right.” I carefully followed their directions all the way down the hall and to the right, but the bathroom was nowhere to be found. I felt chills surge through my skin, but was quickly reminded by my bladder that there was no time to be wasted by fear. Like a night in the Middle Ages I galloped through the restaurant determined to find the restroom. However, I couldn’t, so I decided to ask a staff member to lead me. As we weaved through the cafe’s narrow corridors, I felt as if I was in a never ending maze. Finally, I arrived at my destination. When I returned to the table I told my friend her directions were wrong. She said this was impossible, so she went down the hall and to the right to check- she wasn’t wrong there was the bathroom. Regardless of the extraterrestrial activity, the food was nothing less than out of this world. I mean this figuratively and literally. I ordered the grilled swordfish with steamed jasmine rice and asparagus. No wonder this was called swordfish; the robust flavor pierced through my tongue like a blade seen on the HBO series Game of Thrones. The portion was huge, but I hate wasting food so I tried my best to finish. However, this was a feat that I could not accomplish. I stared at the one lonesome asparagus left on my plate. Something felt off. I knew the food was lively and vigorous in flavor, but this is where things get weird. As my waitress came over to clear the plate she said the asparagus felt lonely. Her eyes widened like an owl who had just found prey after days of hunger. It was like she could see tears from the asparagus as if I was in an episode of veggie tales. She felt so terrible for that one vegetable; she literally began talking to it, then singing to it, then chanting. I saw it move to the other end of the plate as she continued her wistful chant staring directly into the vegetables hollow soul. I was shocked, terror-stricken, and confused. Just what was this establishment - a restaurant, cafe, or feeding ground for the world’s most paranormal culinary experience? Regardless, this activity was not near as petrifying or malicious as the events that took place August 20th at the Cape Cod Creamery. When they served there customers McDonald’s quality “Ice Cream” with sickening or better yet poisoning “butter stick” whipped cream. Just because something is “homemade”does not mean it is good. For example, I could cook battery acid, purée it, chill it in liquid nitrogen, then serve it over some arugula and call that “homemade”salad dressing- that does not...
Read moreAlmost great. Been here a handful of times over the years, and the food tasted fantastic as usual. My only gripe is we were having a fantastic evening and dinner, and then they delivered me a Well Done steak when I ordered Medium. They apologized and took it back. By the time the replacement arrived (about 15 mins later), my wife had already eaten her Scallops entree, and my son was onto dessert. The part that really grinds my gears is that this is not an inexpensive dinner or night out. Hard earned money spent ($175), and the entire dinner was ruined at the end because they delivered the wrong steak and didn't rush to get another one out so we could all eat together. Instead I sat there watching my wife eat, and then vice versa. The waiter was somewhat new (and it was abundantly obvious, he did not deliver anywhere near the customer service level experienced in the past - he informed us he used to manage a pizza joint, it showed...), but the management and the executive chef were aware of the screw up. Do you think they offered to pick up a glass of wine or beer for me while I waited, or offer any sort of compensation for ruining a $200 evening (1.5 hours)? Absolutely not! I didn't ask either, but I shouldn't have to. Proper customer service would have resulted in a completely different review. For management, you should better train whoever was in charge the evening of Friday August 3rd 2018. Any sort of consideration for ruining a great evening and expensive meal would have been greatly appreciated and resulted in a completely different evaluation of the night. I left with the feeling that you did not appreciate and or took for granted my patronage. I won't be rushing back. For the record, I still left a 20% tip. Why,...
Read moreOnce again at Scargo, this time for lunch and it was awesome. We were in essentially a private room with just our table and an open window, perfect covid fighter. The crab cake sandwich in the photo was nicely presented but I took it apart to show the thick and tasty handmade crab cake! We've eaten many meals there and had some amazing food. My father said the last time he was there he had the best swordfish he's ever had in his life.
Even though Scargo was jumping on a Monday night we were able to get seated right away in one of the side areas. Temperature in the room was perfect. 3 Dishes, swordfish, lemon flounder and Filet Arabica were ordered. All were served hot, and tasty. The steak was cooked medium and it was a perfect medium. The portions were sizable and some of the two fish dishes found their way home. Two Apps were ordered. The clam chowder was thick with more clams than potatoes, classic taste, and an Arugula salad that was reportedly very good. Our waitress, Edina was very attentive, and handled substitutions readily. She provided excellent suggestions. Edina was quite cheerful and she has a captivating Hungarian-German accent.
This update is during summer 2021. Scargo serves gourmet food that doesn't leave you hungry. The portions are large and the flavors bold. The wait staff are consistently friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. For this latest meal we ate outside and it was quite enjoyable. This visit, I had the special. It was schnitzel so tender I was able to cut off pieces with my fork! Quite tasty and look at the portion size! Everyone enjoyed their meals and most had food...
