We were sat down last night and waited around 15 minutes til one of the servers came to us, not a issue if they were busy but sadly they were not. Sydney approached us and did not even ask for drinks but rudely asked if we are finally ready to order (she didn’t even introduce herself but we found out her name through the receipt). Again not great service but everyone has bad nights. We order our drinks (which we never got a refill as this is the last time we saw our lovely server). The appetizer came out almost on time it was almost warm. The other waiter guy delivered it to us. We waited around another 30 minutes for our actual food, 15 of which we saw the food just sitting in the window getting a nice cool breeze as the cooks dinged the bell a few times to get the servers attention. Finally, the kitchen staff brought it out as no other server brought us the food. The ramen was cold and not even spicy, the chicken katsu was soggy and the rice slimy and mushy. I never had a waiter come to our table to check up on us during our time there or to even ask if we wanted our check. So I decided I just wanted to talk to someone in charge to maybe sort things out. Go up front and they said “Oh we’ll be with you shortly.” and I waited another 15 minutes. I came back up again and simply asked “Can I please talk to a manager?” and they said “Oh we have no manager.” which is a truly novel concept. Get told to wait again. Another 10 minutes pass and I just go up there and say I’m just willing to pay for a couple of things. They then proceeded to lie to me the next day that they can’t do refunds. Needless to say, this is the poorest experience to be had and we’ve gone to Kurume many times in the past two years as its our go-to place. I won’t be coming back after being treated like this. There’s other restaurants...
Read moreIf you're searching for ramen in the Denton area your first and last consideration should be Kurume off loop 288. Do not be deceived by the humble exterior of the establishment, amazing things reside upon the inside of this seemingly unassuming strip mall.
Upon entering you'll be greeted by the hands-down friendliest staff in the Dentonite ramen industry. Everyone actually looks pleased to be present and are excited to help you along the journey to fill your belly with some tasty ramen broth & noodles. Big shout outs to waitress Nao, whom brings joyful enthusiasm to the table the same time she's serving your appetizer.
As if the staff wasn't great enough, the environment is top-notch. The seating in the booths are enough to easily squeeze in six diners comfortably and offers enough privacy to get an intimate experience with your squad. (or date if that's what you're after)
All that said, I finally get to the ramen itself. The menu selection is numerous and quality of the ingredients rests in the high echelons of brothy, soupy, noodley, goodness. There are several high-quality vegan and vegetarian options & the staff is more than happy to work with you if you have any special requests or dining requirements.
I know it's not close to the charm & bustle of Denton square, but if you're looking for a solid place for a great bowl of ramen it's worth the drive.
TLDR Kurume is the best ramen shop in...
Read moreI recently dined at Kurume Ramen & Izakaya and ordered their shoyu ramen, and I must say, it was a delicious and satisfying meal. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the noodles were perfectly cooked with a nice chewy texture. The toppings, including the tender chashu pork and the marinated egg, added a burst of flavor to the dish. The shoyu ramen at Kurume Ramen & Izakaya definitely hit the spot and left me feeling warm and satisfied.
One thing that caught my attention was the rustic wood interior of the restaurant. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, with dim lighting that created a relaxed atmosphere. The wooden decor added a touch of warmth and authenticity to the dining experience, which I appreciated.
However, one minor disappointment was that they charged for extra spicy sauce. Considering that the ramen bowls were already priced at $13-$15, I would have expected the spicy sauce to be complimentary. It would have been nice to have it as an option without an additional charge, as I found it to be a bit of an inconvenience to pay extra for a condiment.
Despite this small hiccup, my overall experience at Kurume Ramen & Izakaya was enjoyable. The shoyu ramen was delicious, and the rustic wood interior added to the ambiance of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend giving it a try if you're a ramen lover looking for a cozy spot to satisfy...
