Went to The Dive with 8 friends yesterday afternoon during Happy Hour. We had a very sweet new waitress that did her best to take care of us. When it was time to pay, our orders had not been entered during happy hour so the checks were wrong. This flustered the waitress. She began trying to fix the 9 tickets but was struggling and taking a very long time. Lloyd, the owner, came by to turn on the tvs for another customer and we asked if he could help, as we had waited over 30 minutes at that time and had someplace else to go. An hour later we were still waiting and when Lloyd came to remove empty plates and glasses from our table we told him we still had not received our checks. He told us that another waitress was helping. We continued to wait. After an hour and a half we told Lloyd he needed to help the waitress. She eventually came back and we were able to pay. Lloyd, the owner, offered no apology for our 2 hour wait to pay, he did however tell us in a defensive tone how many hours he works during the week, how he has other issues in the restaurant he has to resolve, and a slew of other excuses that frankly are not the customers problem. We went to enjoy ourselves and have a good meal. The food was mediocre at best. The crab cake balls were good. Lloyd was uncaring about our level of service, but wanted us to sympathize with him. There are a lot of choices in Denton. I suggest you choose a restuarant that respects your time and cares that you chose them. IN RESPONSE to Lloyd's attempt to insult the group, not once did we complain. We asked the owner to help more than once. We also consoled the untrained crying waitress, gave her a hug, told her it was ok, and some time after 8pm, we arrived at 5:15, and we wrote our orders on a napkin so that she could re enter them. She had lost our orders entirely. We have spent a lot of money at The Dive and go to a lot of events. We know the waitress by name that was asked to help, in fact we asked her to help our waitress when we saw she was overwhelmed. Lloyd's name calling and lack of responsibility and professionalism is indicative of...
Read moreTo the owner and management please do no respond to my review. I write this in hopes for you to make the necessary changes with your business. Friday, July 23, 2021, I visited The Dive for the first time with my girlfriend and friend. First, the waitress denied my driver's license because no one had a certain light available to validate if it was real or not. Then, she came back from a backroom that seemed like the management area and said again I was denied because now that they have the light it couldn't shine though my drivers license and the back of my license is suspicious. So, I asked for management and was approached by Evie, she said although she had a necklace that spelled, Angelica. She then said I was denied because of the font on my license, all the bartenders denied it as well to protect their license and she has the right to refuse service due to suspension. I do not agree to this because this was an assumption. 1) my font matched the same as management (she has the exact same license) 2) no one asked me any question regarding the information on my license 3) if there was issues with the light this was not demonstrated to me 4) management denied having a machine to scan and validate my driver's license. Since Monday, February 24, 2020, Texas Department of Public Safety started releasing newly designed identification cards and driver's license with new security updates. If management and staff are making assumptions based on this update at least have an ID scanner card in place to accurately verify identification cards and/or drivers license. It's simply not right to be sensitive with selling alcohol products again based on assumptions. I do not want anyone to experience the interaction I received based on assumptions because I felt the various reasons the staff had was not consistent, handled very poorly and was judged based on my race. As the manager said, "I did not have the...
Read moreBuilding has survived under several names, always a restaurant with seemingly endless list of available beers and ales. The chosen moniker was obviously a oxymoron since it's easy to say, remember and definitely not a dive. Upbeat vibes permeate the atmosphere, restrooms are clean and well stocked and there's adequate spacing between tables for optimum comfort.
The Dive has a good menu variety whether you seek pub food, business lunch, or date dinner as it's small but features items picked for the pleasure of your palate.
I can tell you that you'll need more tortillas and salsa with their fajitas as serving comes with three but worry not, there's plenty for two to share and be fully satisfied. Today I tried the Vegan's nightmare and I must say I've never seen a bigger, busier burger. Server warned me it was a lot of food but left it for me to discover the fun of eating it, lol. I had to ask for a separate plate and use utensils. Pretty darned messy but knife and fork helped and flavors were great. Burger seemed hand formed, was perfectly cooked and juicy, egg imparted savory notes awesomely combined with ham, jalapenos were proportional for proper kick and bbq sauce/fried pickle combo married together great. This one isn't for the faint, folks. Loaded fries it comes with could serve two by itself and they're great with a mug of beer.
Food preparation, presentation and portions are in the very good category and beer is extra cold. Service has usually been from attentive, articulate and personable staff. Above average quality of food and service makes it worth your while to try the Dive for a change of pace from time to time, in my opinion.
Edit: Owner kindly replied that the Dive does indeed have a children's menu and highchairs as well as happy hours Monday through Friday...
