The food here is excellent, but the service is definitely lacking. Had a delicious Ethiopian meal with some friends here recently and loved all of the dishes that we tried. I'd particularly recommend the Doro Tibs and Zizil tibs alongisde the 7 veggie sampler. The injera itself is fantastic on top of the great main dishes. The only misstep was the Honey Wine--it looks like it's hosue made (Came in a carafe) and no one at our table found it enjoyable.

Compared to the food, the service was extremely bad. We were one of two tables in the restaurant and had to call over the server when we wanted to order, get refills, get a check, etc. The server never checked on us of their own accord. Frequently the server wasn't even visible and was hanging out in the back, but when they did come out to the front of house, they spent most of their time focused on their phone.

We visited on moderately cool evening, but the restaurant iteself was very warm. The lights were off the entire time (maybe in an attempt to keep the place cool?), but propping open a door to get some airflow would go a long way. Additionally, the bathroom is pretty gross. Floors and walls are dirty, a couple members of our party spotted bugs in the bathroom, the paper towel dispenser is laying on it's side, and the soap available on the sink is dish soap and not hand soap.

Overall the food was so incredibly delicious that I will give this place four stars, but there's a lot of work that needs to be done with providing service and a...

Entering Abyssinia Restaurant you would think you may wish to reconsider. The door is offset slightly to the right and when you open it you seem to be in a vacant space but quickly realize Abyssinia is off to the right. Once you realize this and enter you are greeted by the wonderful smell of spices.

When we entered the Abyssinia we came to realize this is a place to be. It has been running for 13 years and on our visit this evening we found nearly all seats full. We were quickly and pleasantly seated by our waitress. After allowing us to look over the menu for a short time she came to take our order. Never having Ethiopian food before we asked for suggestions.

Myself being a vegetarian opted for the Vegetarian Sampler that was only $9.99. The sampler included seven items. They were wonderfully flavored. My partner ordered the Meat Combo that included Tibs wot, Dero wot, Yebeg Alicha (lamb, chicken and beef) and two vegetable side dishes for $13.00. He was quite happy with all the options and pleasantly pleased with the lamb.

After finishing our meal I had asked about a drink that everyone seem to be having. Our waitress informed us it is there homemade Honey Wine. She asked if we would like a little taste of it. We had to take her up on this offer and along with everything at this place this was just as good.

I hope more people find this small gem sitting right on Colfax.

We will return without question. Great Staff and Great Food at...

I have been a fan of this restaurant and come here on special occasions with my son, they have had the most amazing food and hospitality that I have had the pleasure to, today however, was different. I came in for a special birthday lunch. We were greeted when we came in, got our menu and water, not a lot of people in the restaurant so it was relaxing to be there and my son and I were happy to be there. We ordered the vegetable sampler because we like the variety of all the spices in the dishes. When our food came, I was a bit surprised because I could tell right away that it was not to the usual quality that the food usually is when we come here, it's usually as if it came right off the stove or burner, everything nice and hot. First thing I noticed right away that the injera is usually fresh and soft, very pliable, this time it seemed to taste like old injera and it was as if it had been thrown in the microwave to reheat. From the portions of 3 types of lentils we got, we tasted the difference, they tasted bland, not as flavorful as we had once known them to be. The salad was not as refreshing as before, it seemed as though we had been served old salad that was sitting for a while, it tasted like there had been too much spiced butter added to it. Overall I left disappointed because it is was such a great place to eat, my son and I absolutely tore into their food when eating here, now I am not so sure because it was not as good as I...

My food was pretty good and my service was friendly, but I’m really tired of eating at restaurants with substandard cleanliness. There were zero seats at the table that didn’t have food from previous customers caked all over the table or cloths. Picture is of the cleanest seat at the table. This menu also features jalapeños in many of their dishes. While I (love!) jalapeños, I don’t believe them to be authentic part of these dishes? I waited quite a long time to complete my visit as I spend about 15 minutes waiting for the check (I had already received my To-go boxes, and my table was full of empty dishes- for about 15 minutes) To the owner, please consider rewarding me with a pleasant eating environment for me rewarding you with my purchase of what should be a clean, and premium eating experience. Eating at home has become so much more rewarding than the treat of eating out these days.

First time trying Ethiopian food and it was an amazing experience! Very similar to Indian food and has lots of excellent vegetarian options. Four of us got 2 vegetarian samplers that was a combo of 7 dishes because we wanted to try all of the vegetarian options. Can easily feed a family of 5 or 6 though! Sambusa (filled with lentils instead of potatoes like a samosa) was also tasty. Awesome quality of healthy and flavorful food with very reasonable prices. Very nice family owned restaurant; the owner even came out to make sure we were enjoying everything (Hint: the best part of the meal is eating the injera at the end after it has soaked in all the flavors of the dishes)! If we lived in Colorado, we would definitely be back often. DELICIOUS! Highly recommend if you’re looking to try Ethiopian food!

Just brilliant. Stopped in for a vegetarian platter the other day and absolutely loved the presentation and quality of the food. I've been eating Ethiopian food for a long while now, and I confidently feel that this restaurant is one of the top Ethiopian spots in Denver. The folks that work here are so passionate about their food and with providing you with a great experience. Do yourself a favor and order the coffee ceremony to close out your meal. I'd come back here again and again. How anyone can ever give this spot a 1 star rating is beyond me. This is an authentic cuisine and is family-run. Please try having some patience and understanding. The folks that run this place are passionate of providing an enjoyable and authentic experience for all guests.
