My husband and I took a walk to this wonderful new café and had a lovely time eating a delicious light lunch and relaxing in Convivio’s charming space. The owner at the counter was so friendly and took time to explain what was in each of the menu items and their sources. It’s clear she and her partner and staff thoughtfully source and create all of their offerings and truly want to share the richness of Central American cooking and brewing in light savory bites, pastries, and beverages. We loved looking at the beautiful photojournalistic photographs and textiles from Guatemala on the walls and listening to the sounds of the owner warmly greeting and conversing with everyone who walked in, especially Spanish speaking customers. This is a bistro with a mission: to be a community space that shares Guatemalan culture and serves high quality food & drink made by valued artesanos in “short supply chains”—something we need in a gentrified area where many of the businesses with character and community that don’t cater primarily to hipsters have been replaced....

I wish I could give them negative stars. I included the photo with the original review showing why my latte was revolting, and their response makes it seem like I am the one who had an issue with the coffee, not the coffee itself belonged in the sewer. I have never had a latte as bad as that one ever anywhere 20+ local coffee shops visited.
TLDR: Owner blames me for not liking the coffee even though the picture clearly shows it belongs...
Read moreKnowing how many good reviews the cafe has, I am extremely saddened & angered by my experience. Moving past the multiple mistakes in my order, it's hard for me to shake the lack of remorse by the barista (who through research seems like the owner).
A frustrating experience to have been met with an unapologetic response, and when rectifying the situation was not given choice or conversation. I felt uncomfortable to use my voice in this situation, unable to express conflict due to the lack of warmth on the other side of the counter. A mere "sorry about that" would have been a good start. Ironic when considering the mission and values that allegedly are the backbone to the...
