This restaurant has been highly recommended to me so we decided to give it a try. The appetizers were delicious. The prime rib shoyu had unique flavors and would recommend. The biggest disappointment was the pork and shrimp tantanmen. This was recommended to me and I’ve seen photos of this ramen from their restaurant to know what is considered a their normal amount. However mine was not the case and I spent the first 5 minutes using my spoon to drain the oil. I ended up taking it to go because the amount of oil was nauseating while eating it. The next day my to go container had at least 3 inches worth of oil that was separated at the top. This is insane considering I spend most of the time at the restaurant draining the oil before I attempted to eat it. The recipe did not call for additional oils (as listed on menu) so I can only assume it was pork fat. The broth was ok and I decided I was not a fan of ground pork/shrimp mix as it made the broth have a weird savory yet fishy aftertaste. This ramen was unfortunately so gross that I ended up throwing it away. In addition, I tried their “still walking” drink. I am a huge fan of gin and tonics, from anywhere in any fashion. Theirs was very mediocre and had to return it (which is rare) since the price was not comparable to the quality. Overall, staff and environment are good. The appetizer were amazing. However, I am less than impressed with my ramen experience. I would stick to your normal...
Read moreSo proud of these guys (owners Chef Chris & Drink Maven Ariana) for deservedly making the first Denver Michelin Guide! We love their food and their drinks! We live in the neighborhood & come here every week or two, since their opening (sometimes twice a week for happy hour). We brings friends & out of town visitors because it's always a hit. It is hidden away a bit, in the old Elitch Gardens, near the newly refurbished Trocadero Ballroom, in the Berkeley neighborhood...not a "strip mall" Micheliners. Their menu rotates seasonally, is varied, and always delicious (Chefs Chris, Jon, & Matt). The drink menu & offerings are just as good and as thoughtfully curated. This spring they added the Hanging Garden, which as a gardener has my snap pea taste bud's heart (Ari's inspirational creation), the Drive My Car, a blueberry sensation (Dimitri's innovation), and the Mononoke (Bar manager Jenna's creation), as well as the Fireworks, which is never not good! The summer addition of a chilled noodle has been my go-to, but all the Ramen choices are great. The atmosphere is inviting & intimate, and if you get a chance to eat on the patio, do it. Can't not mention Brian, who's demeanor is obviously contagious and awesome (never seen him frown or look overwhelmed), and keeps the back of house running smoothly. The service is always great thanks to Goldie, Sigga, Aspen, & Kayla. Love this place, Pilar...
Read moreI really want to give this place a 5 star - it just needs work with service. The food is immaculate, however. Been here twice, both times great and I cannot wait for the third.
My advice for the service: The first time I went was for my date's birthday. As the waiter walked us to sit outside, he walked right through the door and didn't hold the door open and instead let it shut in my face which was pretty rude. It would've been a simple gesture and a good thing to do for your customers. Also, the second time I went with my mom, the waitress was very kind but constantly reached in front of my mother to set things down when all she had to do was walk around and place something by reaching next to her as opposed to reaching her arm in front of her face while she was eating. Both examples of basic service etiquette that should be addressed to the front of house staff before service begins. Especially for a restaurant that was recommended by the Michelin Guide.
What went well: They did a great job with the food and drinks and the staff was super friendly. The staff did a great job remembering my birthday and even comped us a desert both times. Very generous. All of the food was immaculate and the seating by the kitchen...
