Beautiful place with chocolate and other products made there. Excellent local and, craft made vibe. Clearly there is passion in this business from ownership and staff. I went overboard and came for coffee and ended up on a shopping spree. Unfortunately like so many boutique coffee shops, etc today, there seems to be a hostile vibe regarding the nuanced political views held by ownership that is exhibited. This is clearly important tot he ownership at Cultura Chocolate. I felt like they definitely have an axe to grind. This is evidenced by management's response to recent review:
"....White owned businesses moving into the "neighborhood" and claiming "local" status without realizing they are contributing to the displacement of brown people and businesses is problematic and a part of the gentrification Westwood is facing. "Local" is not inherently better, especially when "local" does not align with the community we serve..."
My question: are white owned businesses not allowed in your community that you serve, in your opinion? Just curious. I am white, married to a Cuban, my daughter is mixed race. These topics are completely a non-issue in our family, btw. We could care less about race as it relates to our daily lives. In my work, I serve a growing community of Hispanics in my area. Over 50% of my clients are Hispanic and we welcome all regardless of their race. Clearly that is not the case with Cultura Chocolate. Lovely place with a lot of passion poured into it. Too bad there has to be such negative...
Read moreI recently visited Cultura Craft Chocolate, a delightful craft chocolate and coffee shop nestled in our changing neighborhood. The hot chocolate is a standout, rich and indulgent, while the coffee is expertly brewed to perfection. The selection of chocolate bars is impressive, offering a diverse range of flavors.
The customer service at Cultura Craft Chocolate is top-notch; the staff is knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about their products. The warm and inviting atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for both work and relaxation. The cozy ambiance is complemented by the subtle aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
However, it's worth noting that some negative comments have emerged, possibly stemming from the ongoing gentrification in the neighborhood. It's essential to appreciate the positive aspects of a business like Cultura Craft Chocolate, which not only contributes to the local economy but also to the community and provides a welcoming space for diverse communities to connect over a shared love for quality coffee...
Read moreUpdate- finally got to them, but it was at a booth downtown for Los Muertos…let me say this, the fare was good, but the woman working the booth was the least friendly person I’ve ever encountered working at a vender booth. Id ask a question and she’d stare at me, I’d ask clarification one flavors and I’d get a flippant response. I felt like my basic inquiries regarding what they had available were pretty easy questions, but no…so between that experience and my issue with the incorrect hours as described below…I’d say there’s no way I’d even think of recommending or retro them.
Past review- I’d like to rate them but they were closed, they need to update the hours…it was 5pm Friday and they said they don’t open until 6pm on event days (no sign or update to Google as such)…so if you plan to drive across town to try the place out better call ahead, bc their hours are unreliable. Won’t be back since it’s such...
