El Coco Pirata — Restaurant in Denver

First time here. I've heard so many good things about this Mexican place. All my legit true Mexican friends cannot say nothing but good things about this spot. So i decided to go with my 71 year old mom and another couple. WORST experience ever. The waitress was a sweet, but the kitchen was a disaster. We ordered our drinks, came out fast. Nice big Michelada, no issue there. We asked for 1/2 raw oysters. They didn't taste like much, i added lime and hot sauce and still a bland taste of nothing. Next on the menu we ordered fried calamari, those were good enough for all 4 of us to pick at, no complaints there. I ordered a sushi roll for my mom along with the appetizers b/c my mom was hungry and didn't really care to wait to order. Her roll came out a little longer than expected, now here's where the problems begins. My friends ordered two additional sushi rolls and I ordered a Molcajete. We arrived at about 7:15pm we placed the order around 7:45 b/c we were talking and chit chatting with one another, the people behind us got there way after us and so did the table in front of us they got their food no problem in a timely manner. Long story short, we never got any sushi rolls except my mom's. I did get the molcajete but it was not steaming hot, the cheese wasn't even melted and the worst part was the chewy steak, it felt like a piece of leather that I couldn't chew through. It's now a little after 9pm. We finally gave up and asked the waitress to please remove the rolls, we weren't going to eat them. She was extremely nice and offered us something else for free but we had lost our appetite by then. She apologized and explained that the kitchen was somewhat short staffed. She brought out who is the manager. I explained to her the entire situation and how the other tables that arrived after us and ordered sushi had their food first. She advised me that the ticket machine in the back ran out of paper so the tickets got all mixed up. 🤦‍♂️ She also offered to comp a different item. I told her that we didn't want anything else and the molcajete was not up to par for a $25 dish and to remove that from the bill. All in all everyone was very nice, from the waitress to the manager lady. Our bill was still somewhat steep for the drinks and little food we had. Will i come back? Eehh MAYBE, I don't want to say the place sucks b/c all my Mexican friends talk great about it, but tonight was just a horrible experience. A little hard to spot as there is construction right in front of it. I was able to see it before passing and getting stuck in construction traffic but the parking lot is behind the location. Had to park on the back part of the business walk around to the front through an alley. Although, once inside the service was very pleasant. Our server made sure we got our table, chips, salsa and was ready to take out order. Unfortunately, we were very hungry and did not take pics of our food but it was good. I had the Cielo, Mar y Tierra roll which is sort of like a California roll bit also includes steak and chicken and well as shrimp. It was served with shredded carrot and 2 sauces- soy and a spicy one. I ordered the kids meal fish sticks which came with rice and french fries but I was disappointed as there was only about 4 fish sticks that were alot smaller than expected since this is the main reason I ordered that. Most of the plate was rice and maybe 1/4 was fries. I do have to say that their horchata is one of the best I've had. If I could give this place a 0 I would. Our waitress did an amazing job she just took 20 min to come take our order. When we finally ordered we were surprised at how fast two of our orders had come out. My sis in law had her sushi taken away 10 minutes after she had received it and the person picking her plate up said to her “I’ll bring this right back” she never brought it back but we did see that same plate be delivered to the table adjacent to ours. We know it was the same plate because the color and the style of the plate was exactly the same and it didn’t take them less than 1 minute to be delivered. We also had to wait 25 minutes for everyone to receive their plate. Now for the safety of others no plate should be taken from one table and be given to another. I don’t trust this location with...
