f you like beer halls you'll like this place. It has a distinct European beer hall vibe, I'd almost say family friendly. It's a little plain, but if you're looking at the walls your missing the point. As I write this, I'm trying to remember any decor on the walls, which I'm sure there is, but they're mostly white. The patrons tend to be friendly, they have daily drink specials on the board.
The TVs dotted around the bar show mainly sports, mostly hockey and soccer but you can catch the World Series here as well. There are a couple pool tables in the back room where you might find the walls lined with friends and players, chatting away, watching and waiting for their turn.
A section of the menu is dedicated to Czech food, and the beef goulash is really good. I was less impressed with the sauerkraut soup, but only because it lacked much substance. I like more chunks in my soup, but the broth is good- reminds me of borscht a little.
Parking kind of sucks, but if you get there early enough you might find a space in the lot in back. Otherwise, it's street parking along Broadway and you all know how fun that can be. So why don't you plan to take a Lyft, then you can enjoy sampling more of the...
Read moreAnother great meal at SoBo 151! After having a couple drinks at the Denver Distillery, we walked across the street to our favorite and only Czech hockey dive bar and restaurant. We started with a couple appetizers, including their Czech garlic dip (more like a thick garlicky cheese spread). Bob always orders the smazak, which is a very naughty breaded and deep fried ham and provolone entree served with Czech tartar sauce. This time I ordered the half roasted duck for my entree, with red cabbage. It was tasty, and hit the spot. This entree requires about 20 minutes longer than most entrees, and they warn you about that. I would have preferred the skin to have been crispier, but did enjoy the Eastern European paprika sauce in which it was cooked. The Czech dumplings are very interesting. They are somewhere between a bread and a potato.
For those who have never been, "SoBo" stands for South Broadway. It is very focused on hockey with multiple games playing on their TV's at any given time, which sometimes brings in some good...
Read moreThis place is great for pool and good food. Would recommend! I had the weirdest experience yesterday though when I arrived around 7PM. I approached the bar on the pool side and asked the lady behind the bar if I could order some food, she gestured to the nice bearded bartender and said he would be taking my food order. No problem! The lady then asked my friend next to me if she wanted a drink, my friend said she'd like a drink and some wings. The lady then put my friends drink order and food order in. After that she looked at me and said I still needed to wait on the bearded gentleman. I eventually was able to order something, but I can't get how odd this was out of my head. I tried to order food, was told someone else takes food orders, my friend next to me orders food, their food order is put in, then I'm told I still need to wait for another staff member. Made me feel like I was taking...
