a new restaurant in town and it’s going to stay
always craved good biryani in the Morristown area ( including jersey city). Got to know about house of biryani from a Facebook post, it's newly opened ( this Sunday only) in Denville and without thinking about my resolution to reduce weight, here I was to try their biryani and kababs. it was a grand lunch buffet on Friday, $15.99. You can always check the chef’s skill in ala carte, what I was looking for how they manage to maintain their taste in buffet service. We all know the buffet is just like more food with less quality.
Surprise… after cinnamon, the first time in years, I was totally pleased with any buffet. Except for 1-2 typical items ( like chicken tikka and paneer tikka which seems to same through all Indian restaurants in the USA and loved by only Americans) all dishes were superb. The ambiance was quite good. It was crowded and the service was a bit slow sometimes
Let me go through the dishes.. ( and I don’t think I will have dinner today, I am that full)
Buttermilk – trust me it was superb. A perfect mix of all the herbs, curd & spices. I gulped 3 cups. Chutney-raita and other 3 items in the same category Panipuri, Papad, Rasam Mutton Keema Soup and Salads
Tandoori Murgh Kabab – typical tandoori chicken Fish 555 – have it while its hot, if it gets cold, not gonna taste much, nevertheless Great item Shrimp chili - not always you find shrimp in the buffet. Crunchy and tasty Malai and Hara kabab – they kept changing the starters instead of repeating the same items, so $16 is totally worth it. Malai kabab was really tasty, soft, perfect marinated with spices.
There was not much option in Veg Dal Dhansak, Gulti Baigan fry Sorted Veggies
Egg Mania – egg curry. Good one Raju gari Mamsam Vepudu – delicious. Goat Sukha with their house spices
Butter chicken – typical chicken tikka Fish Pulusv - Traditional Fish Curry
Veg Biryani, Plain Rice Mughlai Mutton Biryani – item I was looking for. Sumptuous, mutton pieces were perfectly cooked, soft ( not juicy though). Rice was perfectly cooked. The aroma coming from it complete the whole dish Chicken Biryani – did not try. concentrating on mutton
In the desserts, gulab jamun was finished before I could try, all I got was Gajar halwa, it was equally good
I was there with my wife, we were trying each item and discussing how good it was. We both were satisfied and full at the end of our meal. Can't wait to try their ala carte and their house...
Read moreThis evening, after scouring previous posts, I ordered takeout from House of Biryani's & Kebab's - Denville,NJ Located on Route 46 West near the Denville border with Mt. Lakes, there was ample parking making pick up a breeze.
The menu is pretty extensive and this evening, picked from their Indo-chineese menu with a mix of more traditional starters.
Started with the Samosas (3 pieces of deep-fried cone pastry stuffed with potatoes and green peas served with tamarind sauce) In addition, I also ordered the Onion Kulcha (Lightly leavened bread stuffed with finely chopped onions.) Both were super tasty and made a great start to my dinner.
For the main course, I ordered the Schezwan Chicken Noodles (Veg Hakka noodles and egg/chicken.) This is an indo-chinese fusion which makes for a tasty meal. For those not familiar with food fusions, thr meal is a combination of Indian and Chinese cooking techniques, creating a new meal. It's just like a reese's peanut butter cup where chocolate and peanut butter are both great, but even better when together.
I ordered 520 PM on a Sunday and was told the food wolud be ready in an hour. I arrived on time and the food was ready as promised. When picking up, there seemed to be a good mix of those doing take out and and those dinning in.
When I arrived home, food was still hot and tasty. Definitely another great place in Denville to choose from. Was happy to such a diverse menu with many options to choose from. Also many vegetarian options to choose from. While not a vegetarian myself, will often order whenever my daughter joins me and there are many items that would be perfect got her.
Once of the commen misconceptions about Indian Food is that it is spicy. While my dinner was in fact spicy, that was ordered to my liking. My daughter turns down the spice level way down and enjoys this cuisine a great deal.
In addition to the indo-chinesse cuisine, the menu also offers kebabbs, Bryiani's, Dosa's, Utappam's, and other dinner entrees.
Was very happy with my choices and will not hesitate to order again in the future.
Definitely worth checking out if you are in a food rut and you are looking for...
Read moreTried HBK yesterday for the first time and was extremely happy with my experience. Location: Easy to find on route 46 , plenty of parking and convenient location off I80.
Restaurant: is clean, neat, right now Covid Friendly, and pleasant decor. This is not a fancy upscale eatery, but the food speaks for itself.
Service: Was quick and attentive , and the owner Anu was like it was talking to a friend , warm and welcoming. Very good customer service. Didn’t have too long or short a wait for food. (Sometimes when food comes too quickly thats not a good sign either)
Food: Here is where this place shines. Good solid food, spice level just right, and you can request it to be very spicy if you desire. Not oily. Had the Goat buriyani and the meat to rice ration was good. Portions were plenty for one person with leftovers to enjoy later! Flavors were spot on, spices perfectly balanced and beautifully presented in pure white dishes. Also had chicken buriyani where the meat was fall off the bone. Long grain fluffy light rice was cooked to perfection. The saag paneer was a joy to savor, and plenty of paneer in the dish, again portion sizes good for one person. Being a great cook myself and usually dissatisfied when I eat things i cook at home, I found these dishes to exceed my expectation and can honestly say it was one of the best quality in the area I have tried and I have tried all. I cannot wait to go back and try other things off their menu.
Cons: The restaurant outside is a little bit unkept, windows inside and out need a good cleaning, and cheap LED lights need not be there. More ambience inside would be great post Covid when they reestablish business. The menu is too extensive and needs to be streamlined, and I didn’t see the need for Indo / Chinese dishes to be on the menu which took away from their brand.
Final Thoughts: they opened January 2020 and unfortunately covid hit before they were established. PLEASE support them with takeaway orders it is fully worth to keep them around in the area. Denville is very lucky to have quality Indian food like this. Use the coupon for first time online order and give them a try you will not be disappointed. It...
