Service was very slow at 3:30pm on July 4. Two workers, one for drive through and one working counter both being overworked. We waited at least 10 minutes to get our order placed, we were behind one family of 5 who ordered junior cups and another couple had just moved to the pickup side when we arrived. Doubling the staff would be 10x more efficient.
Worker was friendly and polite.
Custard was ok, I prefer a creamier custard. Portions are way too big. An advertised junior "one scoop" cup was a three different scoops overflowing the little bowl. My 6 year old at maybe half of it.
Atmosphere outside was poor. The building is not in good shape, everything but the menu board was bad. Concrete looked like it hasn't been hosed off in a long time. The garbage can lid had dried custard all over it from the past year, gross!!
If the outside where the customers see and enjoy their custard is left like this, it scares me to think of what the inside of building looks like. Oh, you might want to clean off the now dried up banana slice off the pickup window. You know the one, it is on the side closest to the big bird nest under the awning.
The very noisy road didn't help things either. The 14th st exit seems to need repair as a minivan bottomed out under the sliding doors as it was...
Read moreStopped on the way home from pitching practice with my daughter and her friend. They were asked to choose between DQ, Wendy's Frosties, and Wendy's ice cream shop in Norwalk. Normally Wendy's in Norwalk is the no-brainer but someone remembered the Classic Frozen Custard on SE 14th.
A great choice! I'd forgotten how much fun it was to sit and enjoy an oversized serving of coconut and espresso with the craziness of evening traffic whizzing by. The custard was delicious, the service quick and delightful, and reasonably priced for the four of us. I was pleased to see that a group of 15 or so young families had selected the place for a meet and greet birthday party for one of the kids. I love to see our old haunts becoming new memories for young families.
It was a total error on my part to not include Classic Frozen Custard as a choice on our list and one i won't make again. Definitely stopping there again.
One note.. this is across the street from the Uhaul that I reviewed last fall... might be worth the read if you...
Read moreThe staff was super nice and patient but, unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the frozen custard. I will echo that the flavors taste extremely artificial. It's October 1st so I went with the pumpkin custard in a chocolate-dipped waffle cone. The waffle cone was delicious, but it was covered in chocolate shell all the way down so it was quite messy--especially on this hot day.
My boyfriend got a hot fudge sundae which had 4 scoops of vanilla custard and hot fudge, no whipped cream or cherries like he had expected. In his words, "it was just a lot of nothing".
Like others said, the portions are gigantic! I ordered a junior cone and what I got was monstrous! Most people would probably love getting 4 extra servings for the price of 1 but I like to sample ice cream, not make it my whole meal. Might come back to try a junior scoop of their premium flavor in a cup, but, I would not recommend this establishment. I wish I could, because I've been wanting to try this place since I first...
