This is by far, the cheapest chinese buffet I've ever gone to in my life. It's always $11 but the question is - was it worth it? I say it's 50/50. I've noticed that some of the dishes available to choose from, kinda come off as amateurly done. I praise that there's sesame chicken available, glad I don't have to order it like I do from other chinese restaurants.
But I don't know, I just keep finding myself limited in a way from what's there to pick from. I've been to at least two other chinese buffet places and they've had something to offer everytime I was there. I always had a plate of something different. Yet here, It's guaranteed to be the same.
Oh and I really would like it, as personal preference, is if this restaurant could get an ice cream machine. They still serve ice cream, yeah, but they're in these little cups to compensate. I usually, for dessert, is have a bowl of two cake pieces and ice cream topping it off. I can't do that here, but that's just a preference that doesn't necessarily knock it's score.
What knocks it's score is that the variety could be far more broadened and I see where there's extra cookers ready to be used just for that. I'm wondering when will they be used for...
Read moreI would rate this Chinese Buffet among the best I have ever eaten at. I am from Chicago, and we have many, many good Chinese buffets there.
I found this one on-line when we were staying at Scottsbluff, NE, returning from a vacation in Estes Park, CO, and Yellowstone National Park. I had a taste for a good Chinese Buffet, and luckily found New China Buffet & Grill in Des Moines, only minutes from our hotel.
The buffet is large, 5 steam tables worth, with sushi and grill areas too. The crab rangoon are excellent, large, well-stuffed, and fried perfectly. The Mongolian Beef is among the best I have ever had, the coconut shrimp were perfectly cooked, all meat selections were moist, succulent, and tasty, perfectly seasoned to my taste.
The staff were quick, very attentive, and polite.
My Wife and I visit Colorado every two years or so, and Yellowstone occasionally, and we have now added New China Buffet to our list of "Go To" restaurants when we are returning from our trips.
I would divert from a planned route through this area just to eat at New China Buffet. It...
Read moreMy rating is based on Covid-19 safety guidelines. My family and I typically enjoy New China. Their food is always amazing, and even with our last experience during covid, the food was still great. Unfortunately they did not follow guidelines to keep their guests safe and healthy during this difficult time. Sanitizer was offered at the door but not required, gloves were offered at the buffet but not required while getting food from the buffet line. The biggest bother to me though, masks were required but absolutely not enforced. The place was quite busy considering the situation and more than half of the customers were getting food without masks on and the staff did not have anybody put their masks on. I was highly disappointed that the staff didn't take the appropriate measures to keep their customers safe. I honestly felt I was going to leave the place testing positive with the virus. My family and I will not return to the buffet until the virus is under control or until the company takes the virus...
