We came into the Des Moines location. It was very dark and smelt musty and dirty. Should have been our sign to leave. Seats were torn, and things felt sticky, and again, we should have left and avoided having to add to their bad reviews. We had 2 young kids with us, so we ordered 2 kids, mac and cheese meals, w 2 burgers, just a few mins after seating. Our waitress was sweet and respectful but was the only one taking table orders. We sensed she was overwhelmed. I'm not sure why the host was seating her 7 tables so far apart. No buser seen, tables left dirty full of dishes the whole time we were there. The manager looked very tired and disinterested. She sat in a booth the whole time, only came out to remove from our bill the DISGUSTING burger I ordered. Did not stop by our table to say anything to us. The burger was cold, unseasoned, missing bacon and brown avocado wiped on top of lettuce wrap. Tasted microwaved or held hot for too long after being microwaved. I asked the waitress for the peppered bacon I ordered, and what was brought to me a dog would not even eat. Cold 3 pieces, sticky and slimy sugared bacon glued together. The kids had to wait a considerable amount of time for mac and cheese. I previously asked that the kids' food come right away and not to wait for our burgers to be done. When we asked how much longer, we were told, "Oh yeah, we only have one microwave right now, so things are taking longer." Not what we want to hear when we were trying not to complain and make this disgusting burger work and kids don't have their food yet. Also, I'm sure there is more than one way to make mac n cheese hot there. Boil water and float the bags of mac. Something! Wow, just wow. We gave a more than 20% tip since we believe the management needs to step up and train better. Helping waitress learn better proative service communication and by leading by example. 1 person, our waitress SHOULD not have to carry the load of the shift. It's a team. Please do cover with kitchen staff there is a better way to communicate with wait staff than rudely speaking at them. Being seated so close to kitchen hot line was unnerving hearing the cooks rude tones when speaking to waitress. Also, if the host has time to hang at the hot line and chit-chat, then he has time to buss tables and support the waitress better and maybe refill waters, etc.. There was more. To exhausted to...
Read moreMy family of 4 were excited to tryout this Red Robin location, as it is new to us. We’ve been to Red Robin’s throughout the west coast and this was by far the worst we’ve ever been to!! It was pretty dead for a Saturday night, yet it took a hostess several mins to greet us and seat us. As we walked in, we noticed ALL of the tables, as well as the floor were dirty. The hostess took us to one table that was less dirty than the rest, leaving us to swipe the crumbs and straw wrapper to the floor.. our waitress was nice, however she was working alone and had to cover the rest of the other 3 families that were seated.. the bar tender was on her cell phone (on speakerphone) while simultaneously making drinks, there seemed to be a Manager on duty with a black and pink flowered shirt, however I couldn’t tell you what she was doing because it wasn’t ensuring the place was running smoothly.. did I mention it was dirty?? I’ve never taken photos of a restaurant before, but this one was so appalling I couldn’t help it!! My daughter ordered a milkshake and was sick before we left.. our nice family evening ended with my child being sick all night from that shake!! Not only was the place dirty, but they were out of ingredients for the particular burger that both my husband and I wanted to order which was extremely disappointing!! I get that restaurants run out of ingredients, but by the looks of things and other comments made, this location isn’t as busy as the others we’ve enjoyed throughout the years!! All of our observations only confirmed the “Good” health dept rating we saw in the window as we walked in..
There were so many crumbs on the table, the sleeve of my shirt was covered in them, the tablet screen looked like it had never been cleaned which is so unsanitary considering it’s usually children that play with these things, the floor was filthy which is a safety hazard, the ledge above our table had crumbs and thick dust on it, almost if not all of the empty tables were still dirty from customers who had been long gone… this location was such a let down, I had to share!! I really hope they get it together in there because it’s such a nice location and the Red Robin brand doesn’t deserve this!! Corp should come in IMMEDIATELY and get a brand new...
Read moreWe came to this Red Robin location tonight with a party of 8 for 2 of our sons birthdays. To be fare, we came at 9pm knowing that they close at 10. We spoke with the greeter when walking in and told her that it was important that we have enough time to get through dinner and dessert because we had two birthdays and the boys chose this place above anywhere else. We also offered to go somewhere else like an Applebee’s if it was too much for us to ask. She assured us that if we were patient that they would be happy to accommodate us and that our wait would only be 5 to 10 minutes. We chose to stay. They had few servers and what appeared to be few kitchen staff. Our server Caleb was kind and extremely attentive and even acknowledged our kids birthdays. After dinner Caleb told us that the kitchen shut down the ice cream and he seemed stressed. He then came back and also said that the kitchen staff would not accommodate any desserts for them and he tried really hard. My husband explained to him what a disappointment it was because the boys chose this place on purpose and we were told that they could take care of us. Caleb then went back again to talk to the manager and the kitchen staff. We overheard parts of the conversation and what we did hear was Caleb continuing to press for an approval to serve us dessert while the other staff said no. He also said he will take care of every aspect of it himself, plate cleaning, dessert prep, finish up with cleaning all on his own if they allow him to. The restaurant and manager was a disappointment for sure. Nobody likes to pay restaurant prices and be rushed, however Caleb was the best server that I have ever met in my life and he seriously deserves the position of General Management or more. Perhaps if he was promoted things would run much better! Des Moines Red Robin-you’ve got a lot of improvements to make to treat your guests like guests! Caleb- you made our night special! I hope you are rewarded for your clear knowledge of how good service really is supposed...
