New Tokyo Teriyaki — Restaurant in Des Moines

I read the reviews on this Google and decided to give this local teriyaki spot a try. We were greeted by a very friendly young woman. She took our order. I noticed the prices were very high. Actually higher than some Chinese take-out places I go to. I asked about the chicken and unfortunately, they use thigh meat, which is absolutely disgusting. We ordered our chicken breast meat. I got the Noodle Yakisoba, Sweet & sour chicken, and my husband got the chicken/beef teriyaki combo.

When we got home we were excited about the smells. But I was disappointed after my first bite. The noodles were not good at all. The sweet and sour chicken came with some really watery type sweet/sour sauce that had peas and carrots in it. It looked more like a soup and not like sauce. My kids couldn't finish it, my husband's combo meal looked promising and the beef was actually good, but the chicken was nasty chewy, slimy thigh meat with a funky aftertaste. The teriyaki sauce tasted old like they had it sitting in a container for months. The rice was dry and already a day old as well. It taste like it had been sitting in the rice cooker all day. I mean wow. Just wow. I ordered the spicy chicken breast and broccoli plate that comes with onions and carrots sautéed in. Can I just say how picky I am when it comes to Asian food or any food in general. My adopted mother is Chinese and cooked us original asian dishes our entire childhood she was an amazing cook. Anything she put her hands on came out like a 5 star Michelin restraint. Authentic too. I can't see her or speak to her anymore. It was really good teriyaki I got some beef and spicy chicken mixed I usually don't get spicy chicken but the spicy chicken was really good my daughter loves spicy chicken so I drove back after I ate mine and got her some for later once you got in the car she said it smells like good food she said where is hers I showed her these pictures and said sorry I ate it all she looked at me mad because I smelled so good and couldn't believe I got food without her I told her I was joking as we got out of the car a few minutes later and gave her her spicy teriyaki she was happy to smell it and even happier to eat it because it was so good.
