1-Star Review: Made Me Sick – Worst Sushi Experience Ever
I honestly don’t know how this place is serving sushi. I went to McGuire’s in Destin thinking I was in for a good time—it's a well-known spot, so I figured their sushi menu would at least be decent. Big mistake.
The sushi was completely bland, borderline stale, and had zero flavor. I’ve had gas station sushi that tasted better. The rice was mushy and falling apart, the fish had a weird smell, and the presentation looked like it was thrown together by someone who had never made a roll in their life. It didn’t even look appetizing—and I wish I had trusted my instincts and walked out right then.
Unfortunately, the worst part came later. Just a few hours after eating, I got extremely sick. I’m talking full-blown food poisoning. nausea, stomach cramps, chills. I had to spend the night in my hotel bathroom instead of enjoying my vacation. It completely ruined my evening and the next day. I’ve never had a reaction this bad from sushi, and I travel and eat sushi regularly. It was genuinely scary.
I get that McGuire’s is popular for their pub food, burgers, steaks, etc. but offering sushi at a place that clearly doesn’t have the proper handling, freshness, or training is a recipe for disaster (literally). If this had happened to a child or someone elderly, I honestly think it could’ve been even worse.
I almost never leave negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I felt like I had to speak up. If you’re looking for sushi in Destin, DO NOT go here. This isn’t a small complaint about taste—this is about basic...
Read moreI will say our server “TATIANA” was phenomenal. She was so lovely in every way, warming and professional. The food was great and was very expensive to have not liked anything but the wings. What made it AWFUL was all the other staff and mgr. We were visiting for vacation, walking anround w/ a sleeping heavy toddler in my arms, and unsure of closing time. It was my mother in law, husband, son I held the entire time and myself. The server took time explaining things and talking to us so we just didn’t know. We had horrible look from the mgr and a female staff member entering but ignored it (just thought it was late and they may be tired, something normal). They could have turned us away but didn’t say anything to us. Yet had conversations near us being disrespectful and gave so much attitude. When we noticed the close time we already had our drink and food had already been taken. The mgr got rude with our server and roller his eyes at us (white man). We rushed to eat, even being my husband’s birthday. The server Tatiana was the ONLY one who was nice and said bye thanking us for coming (we tipped her big for her lovely energy). The mgr and lady at the bar wanted us to know they were pissed and showed it in every way the could. The force from locking the door behind us was terrifying. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, EVER. Happened...
Read moreI waited a few days to cool off before leaving this review. Let me say the food was good, but everything else was a train wreck. Our order was taken and after 30 minutes with 3 people preparing food for a small restaurant, nothing. The server offered no explanation or apology. Then, they hold a management /staff meeting next to us which included the sushi chef. This lasted 15 minutes. The server brought me something I didnt order and when it got to the right person, it was not what they ordered and contained an allergen they specifically mentioned not to include when ordering. I sent my daughter to ask what was taking so long because I was ready to leave. The meeting wrapped up just then, and the chef quickly made our order in 3 minutes. Meanwhile, upper management publically chastized our server about her work duties at the sushi bar/register area. Once all was said and done, there was no explanation or apology from anyone. They just gave each other looks hoping I wouldn't make a scene. I tipped 15% but I usually tip much more. Their loss. I won't be back and I'll spread the word. Super unprofessional. I wanted to...
