I’m very, VERY surprised this place has so many good reviews because my experience was literally THAT BAD. I drove 9 hours to get a cake from this place because I was coming from South Florida and had a birthday party to attend there. I know that when she reads this she will 110% remember me because it was such a big deal to have this cake and I made sure she knew that. The owner was so incredibly rude - I really can’t find the right word to describe her. I had been speaking with someone about making a Florida State Seminoles cake. Yeah, they’ve done it before and so on and so forth. This is Florida, a massive college football state. You know the teams. FSU & UF - these are WELL KNOWN, it’s kind of impossible not to be aware. So we ordered a Florida State Seminoles cake, even sent a picture of the logo in a text message and everything, you can’t really mistake that. So we were all happy that this was happening and it was paid for ($50 FOR A TINY LITTLE CAKE MIND YOU) and I drive 9 hours straight to pick this up... and the logo is wrong. Again. How this is even possible, is beyond me. FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. Everyone knows what that looks like, especially when someone sends you a photo of it - you certainly can’t be mistaken. Yeah, well, not the case. The cake I picked up was first of all, small for the whopping $50, the image was faded and really didn’t look good at all, the writing was illegible and looked like a child wrote it - not an exaggeration you literally could NOT read who’s birthday it was, it didn’t even say everything I had asked for it to say it was very much like a forgotten piece she pulled out of her a** last minute or something, AND IT WAS THEIR LOGO FROM 3 YEARS AGO. They haven’t had that logo in YEARS. You don’t even see that anymore. The old one is nearly cartoony in comparison to the new one. Unmistakable. The cake didn’t look good, it was wrong, and overpriced. And the “Icing on the cake” for this experience? The owner was RUDE beyond WORDS. Told me “oh well, that’s not my problem it was a miscommunication.” I asked, how is that a miscommunication when I sent a picture ??? She said that she wasn’t the one who spoke to me in advance it was another employee, who apparently sent her the wrong picture and now it’s not her problem. I explained that I just drove 9 hours and it’s reallh important, I’m very unhappy and this cake is expensive. She blatantly said to me, “I don’t know what to tell you, I’m not remaking it.” Mind you, I told her I didn’t have TIME to get a cake anywhere else and reminded her how far I drove. I’m baffled. She is the rudest, most unprofessional, most rotten management that I’ve unfortunately had to deal with in a very long time. I apologized to the two girls working and told them that I pray they find somewhere else to work because if that’s how that horrible lady treats paying clientele - I can’t IMAGINE what hell it would be like working for her. Zero stars. Awful. I’m disgusted and out $50 for a...
Read moreWedding Cake Disaster !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been a special events planner/coordinator for over 22 years. I have worked with vendors of small mom and pop businesses to high end vendors. This is the first and last time I will use this business. The couple saved for 2 years to make this event happen for themselves. They chose Destin and its vendors over numerous other options.
They ordered the wedding cake from Smallcakes and because it was close to the venue, chose to pick it up. The groom personally went to pick up the cake. He wanted to make sure it would be on time for his wife to be. He arrived and the baker told him the cake would be secured and how to care for it during transport. He followed the directions exactly and carefully drove to the venue.
With the help of his friends, they unloaded the cake and delivered it to the ballroom. He opened the box and watched it fall apart. I was attending to other details and quickly ran over to help.
I requested the head chef of the venue to examine the mess and give me his professional opinion. Immediately he identified the issue that caused the cake to self destruct. The person that put it together used hollow straws to hold up too much weight on the layers. He advised this is not the correct method and should have been assembeled with wooden dowles for stability.
I was swamped with other things that needed my attention and asked the chef to call the bakery on my behalf to see how they could make this right. He made contact with the Owner/Baker and was berated with a less than professional attitude. She pushed him to his professional limits and he was forced to terminate the conversation.
She finally called me back and started with the same condesending attitude she gave the chef. I immediately knew why he treminated the conversation.
I did my best to calm her and keep her on track to find a solution to this problem. I asked her if she could fix it, she said no, not enough time. I asked her for a refund so I can run to the grocery store and buy some cakes and make something happen. She only offered a small discount that would not have made a dent into helping the situation.
I have never been subjected to an owner or business operator that refused to make things right. When I make a mistake, I fix it.

Read moreI was really excited to place an order for my daughter’s half-birthday cake here. I’ve been a repeat customer and have recommended this bakery to others because the cakes truly do taste pretty good. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the outcome this time. I placed my order on July 25th for an August 4th pickup. They asked me to send inspiration photos, which I did, along with a note to change the name and adjust the age to 6 months.
I never received an invoice, so I followed up with a phone call on August 2nd, only to be told I wasn’t on the schedule. They said they’d call me back and eventually agreed to fulfill the order. I was already frustrated, especially when I learned the reason they hadn’t added me to the schedule was because they were waiting on a flavor decision, but no one ever reached out to ask. In fact, the last communication came from me, confirming the size of the cake.
When I picked up the cake, I was really disappointed. It was plain white and didn’t resemble the inspiration photos at all. I will insert inspo and what I received. The cashier told me it was because I hadn’t specified a color, but I feel like that’s something they should clarify if there’s any confusion. A more thorough order form or clearer communication would have helped. Especially when I answered all the questions from the initial email.
What made it even more upsetting was that the writing on the cake barely shows up in photos, which was really disheartening for such a special occasion. I love the flavor of the cakes here, but I felt let down twice during this process and both times, the customer service...
