Prime BBQ Smokehouse — Restaurant in Detroit

As someone who proudly considers himself a BBQ addict, I've crisscrossed this country tasting the best—and suffering through the worst—BBQ out there. Prime BBQ falls somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. They’re not knocking it out of the park yet, but I respect that they’re giving it an honest shot.

I ordered the brisket, and while it had decent flavor, it was a bit overcooked and tasted like it had been sitting for a couple of days. That’s not uncommon—most BBQ joints batch-cook early in the week—but there are definitely ways to store and hold meat better to keep it moist and tender. Plenty of great videos and tutorials out there on how to get it right.

On the sides, the collard greens were solid—well-seasoned and cooked just right. The slaw, however, was a miss for me. I prefer a creamy slaw, and this one was overly thick and pasty. As for the Texas toast, it was the same stuff you find in the freezer aisle. C’mon, folks—if you’re going to do it, do it right. Fresh-baked or grilled bread would go a long way toward elevating the meal.

My suggestion? Focus on a smaller menu with sides you truly specialize in. Quality over quantity will solve 90% of the complaints I see in other reviews. I’m rooting for this place, and with a few tweaks, they could definitely climb...

WARNING!!!! My peoples Please don't spend your hard earned money at this establishment. My husband & I tried this place & I don't know where to begin. First the brisket dry & seem old like cooked days ago. Mac & cheese not sure what that was had no taste. Never tasted something so horrible (and yall know we love our Mac & cheese) greens straight out of a can (taste weird also). Rice & beans lmbo rice mixed with pork & beans horrible. Jerk chicken was OK & the sauces That's it! Called establishment to speak with owner to tell him he need to shut down they not go make it with food like that. Lying & deceiving the people. He told me there's nothing he can do for me all their food is made fresh. Lmbooooo I give them a minute b4 that place is closed. He seem to not care or have any concerns almost defensive but hey just cause you can open a business doesn't mean you should be in business putting disgusting food out like that. Please family don't waste your time. I can cook food better than that. Just horrible. Oh by the way our bill was $56 with taxes 🤦‍♀️ My husband stated he knew he should had went to Motor City....

The food was terrible. The Cajun rice appeared to be raw white rice with slap yo mama seasoning on top. The jerk chicken was chewy. There was no bbq pit outside. That should have been the first red flag. I ordered the Mac and cheese bowl with pulled pork and greens. They added the collard green juice in the bowl and everything was soggy and wet. The peach cobbler and banana pudding was gross. And the side salad tasted like the lettuce wasn't washed. The pulled pork doesn't look like it was put on a smoker. Order at your own risk.
