If you don't mind hanging out with the locals, some nice...some bizarre, or having a clerk behind the counter take your order while visibly tweeking, your good to go! The doughnuts are usually fresh and the service, while having a little trouble getting her words to come out right, was very friendly and so overall it is good. Its unfair however to be too critical seeing that there is no other place close by you can even get boxed doughnuts, but if you want an honest review from someone who knows what a true bakery doughnut should taste like, then continue reading. Here we go!
The taste of the actual doughnut itself without the coverings of layered sugar, severly lacks in flavor! If you just ate the doughnut part, you wouldn't know you were eating a doughnut. There is none of the normal yummy yeasty flavor whatsoever! In fact, Im not sure what it is made from. The texture is good, but the taste is very bland. They have plenty of sugar, which kids love, but they all basically tasted the same. Like sugar! The custard filled ones tasted like they used a Jello brand vanilla snack pack pudding. It didn't have that authentic traditional creamy sweet true vanilla flavor, just that artificial flavor that leaves a chemical taste behind in your mouth. Even the chocolate icing lacked in chocolate flavor and had more of a just a sugary taste. Here's my rant: In todays world, we have come to just accept these changes from what was once authentic ingredients to what is now manufactured or changed in order to save money! If you actually went by recipes from our past, you would make the perfect doughnut every time! I should know! In my youth I worked in a French pastry shop and was up at 4am making those baked goods for the day! The ones that you would stare at through the glass display case! Lol! It also doesn't hurt being from the south and having a mother that made homemade breads, desserts and yes, even doughnuts! My mother loved playing in a bridge group! They exchanged hosting games and when mother had her girlfriends over, it was like eating at a tearoom every day growing up! Thank you momma! Im sure some of our local southern family remember their grandmother's homemade yeast rolls! I will say this, on a positive note, it works if you are buying a treat for your office or the classmates at school because honestly nobody is picky about free treats and that work just fine! Another plus is that it's conveniently open early in the morning which makes it great for a quick grab! Except for...
Read moreBest donuts I have ever had in my life. So soft and fluffy. Almost melt in your mouth like cotton candy. The apple fritters are the best ever too. There is no other donut store better than this one. PERIOD. One thing I want to note. There are way too many great positive reviews here to be debunked. To imply these donuts just have sugar dripping off them is ridiculous. These are not the typical Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts where you can see the white cream solidified running down the edges looking like a tear drop. These donuts don't get hard as a brick after sometime where you can throw them through a window. Till someone else has opened a store to compete with them and set the standards, this one is the absolute best regardless of the hand full of ill people who have nothing positive to say. The few who have not given them 5 stars and gave 3 or 4 stars, they really have nothing solid to...
