Stopped here on my way into town. Friendly service. I was able to try a variety of their unique flavors of ice cream before choosing. Some of the pints they have in the freezer though are not available to try though depending on their rotation at the counter. I decided on a bowl of the California Pistachio and a pint Granny Lay's Banana Pudding and a pint of Coconut Almond Chip. I absolutely loved the Banana Pudding ice cream. Delicious. The Pistachio was good. There were a ton of pistachios in it and some pieces of pineapple. The Coconut Almond Chip I bought without tasting first as they didn't have that one to sample. I brought it home and the vote was it wasn't great. Smelled much better than it tasted. That wouldn't shy me away from this place though. If I'm back in the area I'd definitely stop again. I'd like to try the Root Beer ice cream among others. What is really unique about this place is that you can get ice cream 24-7. Even if they're closed, they have an ice cream vending machine out front where you can get a little cup of ice cream even a pint. Nice selection of flavors in there too. I'd say it's a must try.

What a fun experience! We were driving through Dickson, headed to the Dairy Queen when we saw Katie’s. I love small businesses so we decided to skip DQ and have ice cream here. We were so glad we did! First, it’s just the cutest. THEY HAVE AN ICE CREAM VENDING MACHINE. Need I say more??!! :-D Color me happy! The make all their ice cream and are happy to give you all the samples, which we did. They had lots of fun flavors that were unique to them and it was hard to choose a flavor! We all got waffle cones. My sis had pumpkin ice cream, Mom had strawberry cheesecake, and I had St Dominic (a blend of Decadent Chocolate and Madagascar Vanilla). It was fabulous! They have a great space to eat and they have a whole play area so you can bring your kids and they can eat and play. What a great idea. We met the owner and he was awesome. He is passionate about his business and hand crafted ice cream! Katie’s is great. Stop by and see for yourself!

Over my 55 years, I have tried every ice cream there is. Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry’s, Thrifty, Bluebell, Häagen-Dazs, homemade, etc. I can truly say Katie’s is the best ice cream I’ve ever had. It’s fresh, creamy, delicious, and the flavor combinations they come up with are off the chart! Some of my personal favorites are the cappuccino rum crunch, daiquiri ice, peppermint, eggnog, bourbon chocolate cherry, Mexican chocolate, Key lime pie, and my absolute favorite, orange chocolate chip! I can honestly say I will never bother buying any store bought ice cream again. Add to that that you get to sample anything you want, and they even have an ice cream vending machine outside in case you get a craving after hours! The employees are always very nice, sweet, and friendly! It’s the perfect ice cream parlor. You definitely need to try it!

New response to the owner posting a video, Glad you posted it it shows what a liar and bad owner you are! you can clearly hear me asking the employee at least 3 times very nicely for a cup of ice for the soda bottle I was purchasing that you claim your store "never charges for." You can see your employee blather on about their is a $1.10 charge for a cup of ice per the owner policy. I ask her nicely again if she is sure, gives me the same response only louder voice and waves her hand in front of her, and shrugs her shoulders in a dismissive manner basically telling me through her body language that no ice for me and she is not wavering, and oh well to bad, that is what I consider somewhat rude, No ice to be had, and obviously, there was no reasoning with the employee, even on a 95 Deg day. At that point, I gave up, didn't badger anyone, I was still nice to the employee and I casually joked with her in a nice friendly way asking if the owner also charges to open soda bottle, which she laughed at. Now, the owner is trying to act like it was some horrible smart Alec abusive response. The owner sure can try and spin this video, but it shows I was telling it like it was from the very beginning. Wow, if the owner had put all this effort he put into trying to lie about and smear a customers honest review of his "no ice cup policy" into running his store and training his employees a little better to deal with situations like this he would have been much better off.

After reading the owners response, I thought I would comment and update. I completely stand by my review. The owner should look at the video at your store, and you will see exactly the events that I detailed out as 100% truth. Please post the video and share the link ! ( I bet this will not happen as owner would look very foolish and everyone would know he is just a hot head and a liar) You would think a responsive owner would take some of this constructive criticism and try to improve his operation, instead he tries to insult my wife and discredit me, wow what a complete recipe for failure. You really have no business being in the service business. I would advise potential customers to stay away from and not support this loser and his bad owners policy that made Katie's the only bad experience on my travels through beautiful nice Dickson.

I purchased a $2.70 bottle of soda and also some ice cream at Katie's. It was a very hot day, and even though the soda bottle was in the refrigerator, it was still a little warm. On checking out, I asked the girl at the register for a cup of ice so I could enjoy my nice cold soda. She told me the policy was to charge me an additional $1.10 just to get a cup of ice for the soda bottle I purchased. I was in disbelief and asked her if she was sure? The other girl employee who was behind the counter came over and verified, yes, no cup of ice unless I pay an additional $1.10 and blathered on how it was the owners strict policy and pointed to a sign in the store showing $1.10 for a cup of ice. I asked both of them several times about this "policy" as I thought was a little odd especially since I explained the bottle of soda I had purchased was a little lukewarm and it was a 95 degree day. But there was no satisfaction with either of these two employees, and I left with no ice and a Luke warm bottle of soda after spending $$$ for soda bottle and some ice cream. I guess I could have spent the extra $1.10 to get a cup of ice, but at that point, I was irritated by the girl employee who was being quite rude about the whole thing and I just wanted to leave and dust my feet on this place. So either the owners has a really stupid policy of gouging you extra $ for a cup of ice after selling you a Luke warm bottle of soda and/or didn't train his employees better, regardless I won't be back. Better places I can spend my...

We went there with my son when he was about 3 years old. For reference my son has a prosthetic leg due to a medical condition he was born with. I asked if they had any lactose free ice cream since I'm intolerant ever since my son was born. They literally smirked and laughed at me saying "I mean yeah I guess" which was rude but I shrugged it off as it was a teen at the counter. We got my son his ice cream and sat down in the store. Not only was the staff extremely cold and standoffish, but the entire staff was just staring at my son. I could see them talking and looking me up and down as if I'd done something wrong. I tried so hard to ignore it but sadly my son was just old enough to notice and be horribly embarrassed. When I say looking at him they weren't just noticing our presence in the shop it was so obvious what they were doing. Smirking, side-eyes, the whole nine yards. I decided to get up and say something but my son said "momma don't be mean it's okay I wanna go home" so we left. We've never been back. I've never heard a good thing about this place and even my (at the time) 3 year old said the ice cream was "okay". It crushed him that a special treat I had planned for him had turned into a group of adults and teenagers looking at him like that. I've heard so many horrible things about this place I have no idea why they're still in business.

And now they're gonna tell me this is a lie?! Absolutely not! Why would I waste time to put our a review that isn't real?? My mother has worked on main street my entire life! You can say it's fake all you want but ask my son about it and he'll let you know! You guys destroyed a 3 year olds self esteem! Own up to it! Be a man and stop running from your mistakes. There is absolutely no reason for you to be this hateful, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE PAID MONEY TO YOUR ESTABLISHMENT! You sir are a liar, you hit your own child and I have no respect for you or anyone associated with you. I'm posting because you ILLEGALLY posted pictures of people with their children because you're too immature to accept the fact that you don't know how to treat people. You're lucky you don't have multiple lawsuits on you. Do you understand that?? THE WAY YOU TREAT PEOPLE IS TERRIBLE GROW UP. You're old enough to be my grandfather yet you act like you're in middle school. Disgusting behavior. In the words of many people on Facebook, "I feel bad for...

A refreshing experience: Report from Alabama

Last week my wife and I took a three-day mini-vacation to explore the Montgomery Bell State Park near Dickson, TN. While wandering about the area, we decided to visit Katie's Ice Cream in Dickson, persuaded by the vast preponderance of five-star reviews on Google suggesting that we would have a great experience. So, on October 26, after having lunch in town, we made our way to Katie's.

Our visit to Katie's Ice Cream far exceeded our expectations. But what we did not expect was the very pleasant opportunity to visit and talk with Tom Costa, the owner of Katie's Ice Cream, while one of his sons delivered scoops of some REALLY GOOD ice cream. A huge take-home for us was the positive vibe evident in the owner as well as seeing how careful thought had been put into the renovation of an old building to make it a truly enjoyable place to gather, relax and experience high-end ice cream. What evolved to be the most valuable aspect of our conversation with Tom, however, was the sense of his passionate interest in helping build the Dickson community. As we chatted with the owner, we were reminded of how good food can bring families and people together in a fun and healthy way. As we left and walked to our car, the wholesome and positive contributions that help make for a thriving small town became ever more evident and real.

Our visit to Katie's Ice Cream turned out to be an enjoyable occasion during our excursion to middle Tennessee and we wish Katie's Ice Cream the best as it continues to build its market for aficionados of fine ice cream. The efforts of Tom and his family to provide a wholesome example of how a modest, family owned business can prosper in a small town and still contribute to an atmosphere of working together in building an ever stronger community are evident and most appreciated. Keep up...
