I cant even begin to express how bad my experience here was. To start off, there was a line to get in and the hostess was barely at the host stand, one minute she sat someone and the next she would leave to take care of phone orders, I could already tell they were understaffed. After being in line for a good amount of time we were finally sat down, it was four of us total at the table. After being sat I put a timer on my phone and it took the server BRIAN, 25 minutes to even greet us and ask for our drink order, we ended up ordering everything all at once since he was taking so long with everything we had already decided what we were gonna eat. We waited another 15 minutes just to get our drinks, the entire time we were waiting we kept seeing our server walking around different tables across the restaurant except for ours, he would even sing birthday celebrations for other tables. We get our drinks and I ordered a sprite, the syrup needed to be changed it tasted like carbonated water, on top of that my drink had pieces of god knows what in the ice. My friend got a lemonade and it tasted like water with a single drop of lemon and absolutely no sugar. It took us about 45 minutes just to get our appetizers. After about 2 hours we ended up getting our food, we received COLD FOOD, it tasted like it was sitting out there for the longest, my roll was supposed to be hot and it was ice cold, the hibachis we ordered came cold as well. Server was piling up plates on the table with no pre-bus at all. Overall it was a horrible experience the rude server paid no mind to us at all and after him not being attentive at all the minute he handed us the bill was when he decided to start being attentive, of course since tip was automatically added to the bill he didn’t care about his service with us because he was gonna have his tip anyways. We arrived at 8pm and ended up leaving almost at 11pm. Food is garbage, server was garbage, place was dirty. Save yourself the time and money on this garbage of a “restaurant”.

This was the strangest experience we've ever had at a hibachi. We were seated and the waitress got our drink order and walked away to get them and a strange man with a camera came over and asked if he could take our picture, we asked why and he said they like to give a photo to guests. We said okay and he took some photos. I took the kids to wash their hands and came back to 3 photos in glass frames and a 4x6 not framed. I asked my husband what they were, and he said the guy dropped them off and said the total is $60. This kind of stuff happens on the strip, not in a hibachi. It was very offputting to be basically forced to purchase photos of my children back. It really put me in a distracted mood for the dinner, and I was unable to enjoy the chefs show. I asked the waitress if yumyum sauce was cooked into the fried rice and she said no, but it ended up being in there as they use a "yumyum infused butter." The chef was very kind and made my daughter's chicken away from everyone else's food (dairy allergy, can't have butter on her food). Overall, the food was delicious and waitress was very attentive. But I guess if you're a local and want to feel like a tourist, the photographer could be what you're looking for. (The hibachi menu is not like any other hibachi we've been to, you have to order an additional entree a la carte, and you have to choose between soup or salad. The soup is not the traditional chicken broth soup offered at other hibachi)

There’s a lot of typing and deleting for this review which made me realize what my experience was truly like. This restaurant is located in a very central area with a lot of restaurants and shops near by. Umami has been around for a while and it is uncertain for me to say if it is amazing or if it is slowly crumbling down. Therefore, I’ll just stick to my experience. The food (sushi and fried rice) were pretty amazing the day we went. There were many options on the menu that looked and sounded good. Upon arriving, we were greeted and seated immediately (evening, during the week). The place has a pretty cool look to it but it’s evident that it could use up keeping. The food was delicious and we found the rolls to be a really big, good portion! Tired of little sushi platters that leave you hungry in other places! The fried rice was hot and fresh and very tasty. We really enjoyed the food but the look and feel of the place may not be one for a date night. For us, it may be a spot to come by with a group of family, friends or co workers. (Lots of seating) I would like to go one more time to solidify my standing on the experience but if this can help anyone anyhow, here it is.

I’ve visited this restaurant manny times over the past years, sad to say this will be the last as they just lost me as a customer forever. Due to issues with high blood pressure I always request my food without salt and with low sodium soy sauce which was never an issue until today. We sat at a hibachi table, waiter takes order, I made my request, all good. Until the chef rolls in his cart, arrives at the table and with an angry tones says, my name is ——, let me know if you need anything. He goes around the table verifying everyone’s order, gets to mine and says, oh you’re the one that wants the food without salt and with low sodium soy sauce, for which I replied yes. He quickly says I don’t cook with low sodium soy sauce. I just took it as ok they don’t have and left it at that. He looks over to the other table, grabs the low sodium soy sauce, comes and slams the bottle in front of me and tells me, here, you do it yourself. I was in complete shock, I asked him softly, sit, I don’t understand if you have the low sodium soy sauce why you cannot cook my rice with it. I’ve always had it that way here before. For which he replies, other chefs might have done it, i’m not going to do it. This is a hibachi table and continued fussing for which I quick got up, stepped to the front counter and requested to speak to a manager. Gabriel shows up, well he wasn’t that much happier either. I tell him what happened and reminded him I come here all the time, and bring out my employees, group of 12 every quarter, he replied, yes I remember. Said sorry, I’ll talk to him later. no, let me make it up to you, nothing, is as if he didn’t mind at all losing my business. I’ll make sure to let my company know and close friends my experience and never to visit this place again. I run a customer service department and never would I allow an employee to treat a customer the way I was treated today....

I have gone to Umami a few times before and always enjoyed my experience, but last night was absolutely terrible. It was so bad that I will NEVER return to this establishment. It was my first time not sitting by the hibachi, but at the regular tables. First of all, the service was terrible for it to not be that busy in the restaurant. To even get seated, no one was at the front. We had to flag down multiple waitresses to get a table for 4. Our waitress came by roughly 3 times, to check on us, when we were sat for almost TWO hours (which it should not even take that long for a party of 4). At the pay station, 2 employees were talking about another coworker and how she was horrible at her job (they should keep that convo in the back). To get our check after we finished our food, it took around 30 min. 3 of us ordered hibachi and the food was TERRIBLE. My chicken was chewy and was not cooked well, had to send it back. The steak also had an off taste and was still raw. Everything was not seasoned well. The fried rice tasted like it was boiled in cleaning solution. I drank a marg that was too sweet and not good, too. My friend who didn't get hibachi, did NOT enjoy her honey garlic chicken that was the size of a golfball (why are the chicken pieces so big?). The food left a disgusting taste in my mouth. The best thing was the soup and salad. I left the restaurant hungry. Additionally, the bathroom was disgusting and the Christmas decorations, around the restaurant, had a ton of dust- so gross. The bill came with 15% added already, I wouldn't have left a tip honestly. I am one to ALWAYS tip and never write a negative review, but it was that bad. Overall, TERRIBLE experience, you should save your money and go...
