Had my hopes up as I had been anticipating having dim sum for a few weeks now, but my hopes crashed so hard here that I almost forgot my anticipation in the first place. We had a takeout here, and although I never write reviews, I felt the need to write one here. Giving one star for multiple reasons:
First of all, when my parents were picking up the food, they spent a whole hour waiting for the meal, and in that time observed the unhygienic and UNSAFE conditions of the restaurant. They WERE GLAD that they did not bring me and my little sister to pick up the food with them.
Second of all, they messed up not one, but TWO items we ordered! And sadly, both of those item were the ones that I had been anticipating the most (I am the one who wanted to eat dim sum in the first place). We received two OTHER items from ANOTHER customer’s order (who was most likely very disappointed as well to find that two of their items had been swapped out for another customer’s items). Both of these misplaced items were not foods that we enjoyed either (which is why we didn’t order them). So in summary, the staff somehow managed to mess up two customers’ orders in one go 🙄.
Third of all, the food was not up to par as compared to other dim sum restaurants that we have tried. The texture of the food overall was very dry and tasteless. In all honesty, the only part of our order that I found decently tasteful were the sesame seed balls. The rest of the order tasted low-quality and had weak tastes.
Lastly, the food was incredibly overpriced for the taste, quality, and service as mentioned above. It was like a middle/high-end price tag on low-end food.
Summarily, I will not be ordering from here again. And I also don’t know whether the meal has made me more hungry or less hungry because the meal made me crave better food but also tainted...
Read moreWhere are the dumplings in Georgia? Read an article about where some of the best could be found. Dim Sum Heaven in Doraville was mentioned. Today, I thought it my civic duty to drive up and try it out.
There were plenty items from which to choose. I ordered steamed pork bun , chicken and chives dumpling , shrimp dumplings, shrimp and vegetable soup and chicken and vegetables (entree).
Here's what I found: Staff pleasant. Food pricing reasonable. Portions are ample. No skimping. The steamed pork bun was huge! Loved it!!! Ingredients tasted fresh. Most was nicely seasoned but not too salty. Food came out hot!
My only regret is that I didn't look to see if they had any spring rolls. Probably did because they had an extensive dim sum menu posted on the wall. I was focused on dumplings and buns.
There is indoor seating or takeout. No outside dining. There is ample parking as the restaurant is in a mini strip mall.
I arrived before 5:30pm on a Wednesday and there was no wait to order. I was given 20 minutes to pick up. I walked down to Dollar Tree and by the time I finished shopping there and walked back my food was hot and ready.
I will go back to try some other items off the menu. But first, I must try out some other restaurants I read about in Doraville that have dumplings. Let's see if the...

Instead of the customary big dish of food accompanied by a covered tub of steamed rice and a rice bowl— got a fancy/cutesy plate with some rice and a modest portion of salt and pepper squid (missing the shredded lettuce) resting atop it. Not as tasty and kind of oily too— rather than its usual crisp dry well spiced character.
This ain't Buckhead guys, it's Buford Highway! Taking them off the rotation for a while-- then revisit. Hopefully they'll go back to being the top restaurant on BH again!!
UPDATE: 21 NOVEMBER 2023 Still a top-notch authentic Buford Highway Chinese restaurant. Great food, friendly service...but prices are much higher :-(
Outstanding real Chinese food. Usually we're the only caucasians eating there. If you're adventuresome, order off the "Chinese" menu rather than the Americanized Chinese food menu. The lunch special menu is priced right and has an outstanding selection of authentic dishes with large portions-- but it's just Mon-Fri though and not on weekday holidays.
Been going here weekly for years. Only hiccup was in the weeks after the AJC gave them a great writeup and they were swamped with more business than they could handle. Fortunately, things are back...
