A restaurant has arrived in Dover that is a must stop. This is the country food that I remember getting every Easter at church. People would bring their bowls of food and it was all homemade and the food was always so delicious. This place captures that and I feel so happy when I am here. Every single thing I have tried has been a "would recommend" dish. The fruit infused iced tea is so unusual and delicious that I would come here just for it! I realized they are only open 3 days each week and for a short time. They usually sell out within two or three hours so get there early. It is cafeteria style at the moment and you just get in line and pick what you want. You get protein and two sides with a roll. As my father used to say, "It's so good it will make your tongue slap your brains out!"
2022-04-29 I was in line 15 minutes before it opened and again there was a long line at noon when they opened the door. Today the wife and I again tried something we hadn't tried before. My wife got the ribs and I got the crab cakes. The rib meat falls off the bone and tasted very good. The crab cakes are just amazing amounts of crab and very tasty. I only have to try the turkey wing now and I will have tried everything that has been on the menu so far. My favorite meal so far is the chicken with mac and cheese and candied yams. I could eat...
Read moreIt took exactly 1 hour to get our food from the time we paid, they didn't have one of the meats we ordered with our platter and offered up a sorry excuse for a replacement. Keep in mind we were alerted after being there for 55+ minutes. The kicker is after all of that I got home and was short 1 of my pieces of fish. Needless to say, I would not patronize this business again. Customer service is important especially if I'm utilizing my time and hard earned money.
Update in response to the comment below: Yes sir/madam I am in agreement, the best course of action would have been to address the staff which we did with the young woman taking payments and bagging the orders. She went to the back and spoke to a gentleman and came back stating she could not substitute the missing item with what we asked for, which would have been courteous for the wait time and inconvenience. You stated you guys don't "miss fish" sorry to inform you but you did and as humans mistakes happen. To reply to the review with anything other than an apology for the the mishap really speaks volumes. Have a...
Read moreThis is my third visit to Tomeka’s and I can say that the quality is consistent. I usually get the fried catfish, but I have tried the whiting, the shrimp, crab cakes, Turkey wings, and bbq ribs (fall off the bone tender & delicious). The sides are also delicious but have too much salt for me. I would still give this establishment 5 starts because I personally don’t cook or eat a lot of salt so that is based on my own opinion. I do wish there was a baked fish option. There’s always a little wait for the food but if you have somewhere to be and are in a rush, pick a different day, it’s worth the wait. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky but I’ve been on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and never waited more than 10-15 minutes. The staff is kind and friendly and you can tell there’s a lot of passion and love in the food, the prices are fair for the quality and portion size in my opinion. Good luck finding any soul food in Dover coming close to this, a...
